Not if he was there only as Bruce. If he was there most likely he was in Metropolis on Bruce Wayne business and when he was caught there he just saved the people he could.

That is my theory anyways IF it is a flashback.

I misread the original post and thought the other person was suggesting that Bruce Wayne traveled to Metropolis out of costume with the intention of providing ground support. My mistake.

I like the idea of Batman saving lives as Bruce Wayne, but I don't see the purpose of doing it as a flashback as suggested. You gain nothing from it except a retroactive, ultimately meaningless connection that could have easily been established in the present. It's not the worst idea ever, but they could do better.

I watched the hospital get blown up live as they were filming The Dark Knight. Now every time I see that scene, it sort of takes me out of the movie.
