Just had this discussion with my roommate, and was wondering what you guys thought about it. Who is the more resourceful problem-solver; Batman or Huck Finn?

My roommate feels that Huck Finn is more resourceful - his position: "The day Batman frees a slave is the day I can pick Batman."

I disagree and think that Batman is much more resourceful, from his detective training and experience with characters like the Riddler. I'd say, at the very least, Batman has had more opportunities to be more resourceful.

Yeah, I guess Huck Finn is better at freeing slaves. And Batman's better at developing schemes for destroying incredibly powerful superhumans. I mean, they're good in different ways.

Batman freed Dick Grayson from the slavery of pants.

What about Batman vs. Huckleberry Hound? Talk about a clash of titans.

Morgan Freeman

Billy Dee Williams...

wait a minute, what am I talking about? There's no slaves on Cloud City...

This thread is so less awesome than I thought it would be.
Well let's make it more awesome.

Batman vs. Huckleberry Finn. Huck and Tom Sawyer trick Batman into whitewashing a fence. What's Batman's counterattack?

Huck Finn because he has a better, wiser writer. Superior writer wins for his character.

Rips peices of the fence off and beats them with it. Then makes them re-paint over the blood and tears.

This thread title had soo much potential :(

Bruce Wayne's grandparents used the tunnels under Wayne Mansion to save slaves during the civil war.

Does that count? :D

My grandfather fought in the Great War, doesn't make me a veteran.

Hasn't Batman broken up prostitution rings? Those women are basically slaves in some cases.

Prostitution is more like indentured servitude, as they choose their profession.

SF:

Unfortunately your wrong.

Some prostitutes are forced into being sex slaves, even in Western countries.

Yeah, I'm talking about major prostitution rings where people from, like, the Balkans or the Ukraine ship women over and local pimps put 'em on the streets. I don't think those women can really be said to choose their profession.

Well no one doubts the complicated negative sociatal implications of such acts as international prostitution. However, and perhaps my knowledge on batman is more limited, but I think it is then required to establish whether Batman helped to rescue prostitues by chosen profession or not. Note - I acknowledge the possiblities that some prostitutes who supposedly choose their profession are theoretically forced into it by sociatal, political and contextual structures but this holds true for indentured servants as well or any other profession of servitude.

Batman has interacted with "regular" prostitutes before. He did that at least once in Morrison's run.

He tried to talk them out of it but he realizes it's just a waste of time. Then again he was really beat up in the issue I read. Maybe he'd be more strict with them in prime condition.
