In BB, Batman was in training mode and really still had his training wheels on:
- Fox helped him on the technical side
- Alfred helped him with dummy corporations
- He got lucky finding some stuff out (e.g. when Rachel stops by and delivers his present, he finds out she's going to arkham).

Don't get me wrong, he went from kid to batman, but his detective skills and technical skills still had some rough edges. He also didn't have any advanced mecial skills to create the antidote.

How far do you think it will go in The Dark Knight?

Will we see Batman create more badgets?

Will we see Batman in more disguises doing recon?

Will we see Batman get more and more access to police files?

Will we see Batman create the Bat Computer?

I really want to see Bruce in diguise going undercover

Doesn't have to be, but that would kick ass.

hells yeah! Me too . . . who is Matches Malone? Is that the bum?

I would love to see Matches and not have the audience even know... that could be a really great moment.

Agreed. It would be sweet if the audience thought he was just soom bum. And then he rounds a corner in an alley after finding something out and gets into a crappy car. As the car pulls off Bruce starts peeling the makeup away to reveal his face. I would love it

ok . . . since none of you @$$holes told me, I looked it up myself!! And I would also love to see Matches Malone make an appearance, and not have the audience even know like that one guy said

Matches Malone is a Bruce Wayne's 'gansta' alias, though . . . not the bum like I thought at first

I would like to see him as both. I would love to see bale doing like a gangster accent and all that cool stuff

^yeah . . . I hear what you're saying . . . and I guess Matches Malone was indeed toned down in TAS; I just thought he was the bum that got kidnapped in that one episode where Bruce Wayne loses his memory, and they like have all those bums working at that camp . . . . ok, tangent city . . . let's just get some Matches Malone action . . . that would be PHAT!!

Well, in a way....Lucius kinda does that in the comics. Kinda being the eyes and ears of Wayne Enterprises, although Lucius is not in on the loop. But, I actually prefer Lucius being in the way he is. He's too smart a man to be taken a fool.

Don't get me wrong, he went from kid to batman, but his detective skills and technical skills still had some rough edges. He also didn't have any advanced mecial skills to create the antidote.

I dunno, I mean...he never got the opportunity to create the antidote. So, we don't really know if he CAN'T do.

I think with the Joker, if he's got his laughing gas.......there's a great chance that he'd be able to try his hand it then.

And I thought his detective skills were great. There's bound to be more, since there's going to be more Batman. So, I wouldn't worry about that one.

Doesn't have to be, but that would kick ass.

Ya know.....that's a possibilty. We saw Bruce doing stakeouts with his jean jacket and hat. So......just add a fake scar and a fake mustache and volia. Matches.

Nothing heavy, nothing Miami Vice style or anything.....nothing major undercover work, just him snooping around at a bar or something acting like a bum....I think that'd be all needed to appease us Matches fans without making a big deal out of it.

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Ooh, I think it would be good if Bruce was able to come up with the antidote in TDK for the Joker Gas

I'd really like to see Bats developing and using his detective skills...I think this is a pretty important part of the Batman character. It's not all ass-kicking although he does a lot of that. Maybe Bruce takes forensics classes at Gotham community college, lol.

That's a bit of a s-t-r-e-t-c-h... by that logic one could say that since he never got the opportunity to reverse the rotation of the earth then we don't really know if he CAN'T do it. But if we are going to be objective about things then we must confine ourselves to what actually appears in the film, either implicitly or explicitly, and the fact is that Batman does not create the antidote, nor is there any indication that he has the ability to do so. In fact, he is expressly unaware of the chemical compounds that comprise Crane's toxin, even after Fox explains the particulars and in spite of the fact that he had been exposed to them before.

Great? In Begins, Batman never really rises much above the level of a beat cop... it isn’t until Ra’s shows up at Wayne Manor and follows the tired old villain cliché of revealing the devious plan to the hero that Batman finally puts things together.

In TDK, Batman needs to be much more intellectually skilled—and self-sufficient—than in Begins.

I want to see Batman use more of his chemist skills and also detective skills as well.

Well, we saw him do detective work in BATMAN BEGINS......so, I bet we'll get more of it in the sequel.

It'll be interesting to see him do forensics and stuff....although, some of that stuff might fall more into scientists, CSI type stuff. But, it'd be cool.

i hope he makes the bat computer

Makes? Or buys and pieces together?

I mean, why make a whole computer when he could probably buy it.

I was under the impression that he was playing coy with Fox. Before he realizes Fox is in the room, he sounded very technical when speaking on the fear toxin. And he hadn't even studied the thing, that was off the top of his head. I thought his joke about "passing around the weaponized..." was one sign that he was playing the coy card with Fox.

I'm just saying, Bruce was knocked out for a few days. He couldn't create an anitdote b/c he was knocked out. He had been affected by the toxin, so he was incapacitated. So......I'm just saying, it's not like the film made him out to be the opposite of his science smart-comic counterpart. It didn't exactly show us he couldn't do it.

Of course, like you said...that doesn't mean he can. But, it does leave the door open for him to be able to do so in a later film....and not contradict the first film.

Much above a beat cop??

C'mon, he does detective work. He eavesdrops using spying technolgy, he does stakeouts while taking pictures, he interrogates Flass......gets a lead he runs down to a safehouse in the narrows, where there was evidence on the drugs that were being cut.

So, eavesdropping, stakeouts, interrogation, running down a lead, and finding evidence. That's detective work. It reminds me a bit of THE WIRE, which is hands down the most realistic cop show ever made.

And.......how could he had eve caught on to Ra's before then? He hadn't found out, through interrogation yet again, that Ra's was behind it until about 15 minutes before Ra's shows up at the mansion.

So, he's supposed to figure out, solve and stop Ra's plans all in a 15 minute car chase ride between Arkham and Wayne Manor?

C'mon.

Agreed - this is one side that they still haven't really shown inthe movies. In Batman he does a little detective/chemical work in figuring out which products had the Joker's chemicals but it was really just delivered in the"Alfred let's go shopping" line and thatwas about it. As "America's Greatest Detective" I would really like to see that side explored and used.

Well, I think that counts for the scientist category. Maybe not detective catgeory.
