I'm assuming the fake Batmen is a mis-direction towards the Joker. Rumor has it that he finds out who Batman really is and while at a party discovers Wayne is standing with Batman to disspell the fact.

Like I said, only a rumor.

I think the new glove is pretty cool. It goes with the realistic envisioning. I would like to see some more devices used with the grapple gun. Perhaps the bola or a net of sorts. His utility belt needs to encompass more of his character. One of the strong points of Batman in many people's minds is that he was famous for his gadgets. Although I will admit, some of them are ridiculous. I was waiting in Batman Forever to see a condom pouch with bat rubbers. Since everything seemed to warrant nipples.

I'd really like to see Batman manuever around the city more fluidly/discretely in TDK. Careening across Gotham rooftops in a tank doesn't seem Batman-esque. Actually, that's more of The Joker's style! Although the tank would have to be purple...

I don't think it sounds useless; just a bit superfluous. I'm interested to see the context in which this gadget will be used. I doubt Nolan would include such a specific gadget into his Batman's arsenal for little reason. That's not his style.
