The Digital Bits has confirmed that Warner Brothers will re-release Batman Begins on DVD in the third quarter of 2008:

The 3rd Quarter will offer Superhero fans something exciting: a Batman Begins: Limited Collector's Edition Gift Set on DVD and Blu-ray Disc

I hope this signifies that we'll get a commentary, the full marketing campaign (teasers, theatrical trailers and TV spots) and some featurettes. I don't want collectible packaging or physical items that are tacked onto the 2-disc Special Edition.

I agree. What about deleted scenes? Also I hope they have a better menu. The other one was annoying. I admit I love trailers, clips and TV spots. It was my favourite extra with the original Star Wars trilogy i.e "A billion years in the making." LOL.

I want this regardless of what it does or doesn't feature.

More from DB:

The 3rd Quarter will offer Superhero fans something exciting: a Batman Begins: Limited Collector's Edition Gift Set on DVD and Blu-ray Disc, as well as a Batman Anthology box set of all the feature film titles on Blu-ray Disc. These are obviously timed to coincide with the DVD and Blu-ray release of The Dark Knight. Additional superhero releases are TBA.

In terms of new titles in the year ahead, you can obviously look forward to the DVD and Blu-ray debut of such theatrical release films as The Dark Knight, Speed Racer, Get Smart, Where the Wild Things Are, 10,000 B.C. and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Price, later in 2008 and early 2009.

I want more behind the scenes stuff.

Like stunts, the costume, fights. Thats what I want on the DVD

Yeah -- I'm surprised there wasn't a featurette about the new musical score for "Batman Begins", considering how much of a departure it is from Elfman and Goldenthal's efforts. Zimmer and Howard participated in the PiP feature in the BB HD-DVD, if I'm correct.

Or maybe an isolated music track, since the composers recorded it in London with a buyout orchestra.

More from DB:

The Batman Begins: Ultimate Collector's Edition will be released in Blu-ray this year, and it will have everything that was on the HD-DVD release and possibly more. Warner is at work on bringing the rest of the Batman live-action films (from their previous Batman Anthology on DVD) to Blu-ray, but that might take longer. Rest assured, though, they are in the works.

Now I have 2 buy Batman Begins again... D'oh!

Will the DVD still be released in stores as well? Or does this mean it will be an online exclusive?

Maybe we'll get lucky and it will be an extended cut.

as if i didnt have reason enough to support Blu Ray..

not that there's an option anymore...

I fricken Hate Blu-Guay!

But if my fav movie studio is going Blu, then I guess I have to follow them. :csad:

The theatrical cut of Batman Begins is the director's preferred cut -- everything that was in the script ended up in the movie. The only thing they could add would be very minor scene extensions or scenes cut from different angles.

I hope it comes with an awesome polystone statuette of Batman.

Do it WB! I would still buy it. :woot:

Will Blu-ray discs play (albeit poorly) in a regular dvd player?

No, Bluray discs can only play in Bluray players.

That also goes for HD-DVD discs. High Def discs will not play in old or new DVD players only in HD players.

I will never understand why people desparatly need an extended cut everytimes a movie comes out on DVD. Can’t you just realise that most of the time, those new versions are just put together by the studio, hoping to make more money.

Let’s take the example of the new Spider-Man 2 cut. The « 2.1 » version as they called dit. Can you believe they actually named a film « 2.1 » ? Well, actually it is pretty fair, it kind of sets to tone: this new version is just going to be a random merchandising product derived from Spider-Man 2. Most of people of this board claimed that it was « great », making things feel « deeper », blablabla. Yeah right, the thing just emphasised what was alreday obvious. They tookaway every single subtleties to a film that wasn’t that subtle in the first place.

Why do you want an extended cut for Batman Begins? Chris Nolan got the final cut, his movie is perfect. Every single scene that he shot ended up in the film. Watching a longer version of a film doesn’t make it better. But people don’t want to understand that.
