If people are taking hours for their hair to dry, then why not just shower earlier? It doesn't have to be right before bed. If you go to bed at 11 pm or midnight, then shower earlier in the evening if you're at home. That way your hair can dry by the time you have to go to sleep, and also the shower won't be waking you up so much because it won't be immediately before bedtime. At least you're still clean before going to sleep and for a period while you're at home. Otherwise people aren't really taking showers to be clean but just to freshen up.

I can't relax anyway if I've come home in the evening and haven't taken a shower yet. I still feel tight and highly strung from the day and need a shower to wind down and to get rid of that grimy feeling.

And I'm not suggesting people have to wash their hair every day. You can do so every other day if they don't want to get rid of its natural oils. But at least you could be clean elsewhere if taking a shower - eg your face, armpits, feet, crotch etc.

Also, I notice that the water in the US seems more abrasive than in the UK. Everytime I go there, even if I've been washing my hands, they end up looking coroded after a while. That never happens in the UK.
Sorry, my hair dries in 3 hours when it's sunny outside and 80F. I did try showering once at night, and my hair finally dried by the early afternoon the next day, even after I gave up and blow-dried a little in the morning. :oldrazz: And I promise you, sitting around being wet is 1000000x worse than being dry and little grimy. It's when you get wet and STAY wet, that the germs start to grow on your body.

I have A LOT of hair. And this is what girls with long hair have to go through, mister. :oldrazz: I assure you, every girl who has long hair showers in the morning.

Humanity has done quite well not bathing every single day. I don't really see the need to do so if I'm healthy and my fiance doesn't mind and neither of us has allergies. By washing off ALL the bacteria (which you can't anyway), your immune system doesn't get much practice fighting off the real germies.

I do wash my face every day because I have oily skin on my face, but the rest of my body does quite fine otherwise. Being in a dry climate is definitely a factor too. If I moved to a tropical climate, I'd cut all my hair off (a boy cut would be required, considering the thickness of it) and shower every day. :oldrazz:

I always wondered why it always smelled so bad at Comiccon, you have provided a good explanation. Deoderant and soap bad for you too? :woot:

Actually yeah there are a number of metals found in deoderants. Soap is full of chemicals. You seem to be missing my point tho. Yes this stuff is harmful to our skins natural state. We are animals. Homo sapiens. For thousands of years our skin evolved to handle natural conditions and in the past 8,000 years are skin has been subjected to a number of natural and artificial substances all for the sake of taboos. Bathing daily and smelling like peaches and daphodils and lathering on chemicals isnt the natural state of our bodies. Any dermatologist will tell you that constantly scrubbing and sanitizing your skin with alcohol and chemical based products will do a number on your skin. Anyone who has taken a biology, physiology, anatomy, or health course can tell you that. My point is that this mentality that you take a bath even when you arent dirty is detrimental to the human skin. Body odor is a result of sweat on our body mixing with the bacteria on our bodies. Sweat does not stink on its own. It has to mix with the bacteria. If you live in and maintain a clean environment and dont get dirty like a child bathing should regularly only be needed once in a 24 hour period.

Am i advocating not bathing? Nope. Not at all. Bathing is good. Deodorant is good. But bathing And washing your hair every 7 hours or so does do damage to the oils and cells of both your hair and skin. This is fact. The human body naturally secrets oil. That oil isnt dirty. It evolved to protect us from the environment. Its biological fact. So if you got some oil its ok you wont rot.

I shower three times a week (sometimes twice).

Have at it, folks :funny:.

I actually wash my face using jojoba oil. Put the oil on, rub it into the pores. Use a washcloth with hot water, as hot as you can stand, to wipe it off. Takes makeup off and cleans my pores pretty well. I don't get acne anymore. :yay: It's against common knowledge, using oil to fight oil, but a lot of bad skin reactions like acne is actually a sign of your skin going overboard trying to replenish the oils you're stripping away by bathing too often, or using strong soaps. Wit the oil cleansing method, I think it's actually the hot water that does most of the work, and the oil helps to protect the skin from overdrying.

Also, I noticed that I was getting armpit stains on my t-shirts when I used antiperspirant. I stopped using it and no more stains. :oldrazz:

I keep my hair very short, so I don't have to worry so much about my hair looking greasy. And I put on fresh deodorant every day, even though I barely sweat.

I admit that some of it has to do with laziness, but it's mostly due to the fact that I have a mild case of icthyosis, and I don't want to dry my skin out more than it already is. I'm already bracing myself for winter :csad:.

Your no one to point fingers. I think I smelled you in line to get a Jim Lee signature last year. lol

Uh dude did you miss the part where i said i bath once daily and more if necessary and i wear deodorant. I was discussing the difference between biological necessity and taboo.

Biologically speaking our skin is better ofc not being subjected to a scrubbing more than once a day and our hair oil needs more than 24 hours to build back up to normal level. Culturally this is a no no. heck in the dark ages bathing habits were never not at all lol. They considered it vanity. And in the 1600s it was believed only royalty could use soap. Human bathing habits have alwayd been based on vulture and taboos more so than anything biological.

I've noticed that too, or at least some kind of white residue. I don't really sweat very much either everyday, like yourself, so I tend not to wear deodorant unless I know I'm going to be sweating - eg at the gym and doing a treadmill/ cycling/ rowing exercise.

I do shower at night though, usually before bed or at some point during the evening. I occasionally take additional showers in the morning, but wouldn't normally before work because that would mean getting up earlier and less time in bed. I usually just get up, brush my teeth, eat my breakfast and then brush my teeth again. I don't really sweat at night at all.

I've noticed people mentioning taking a shower after sex, but shouldn't people do that before sex as well?

Lol oh gotcha. Im not using the dark ages as an example of what we should be doing. Im using it as an example that they along with every time and culture show that bathing habits vary based on culture and taboo more than any biological standard.

...why do you brush your teeth twice in the morning? I have soft teeth so I can't brush too often or too hard.

Those fancy clothes that you see royalty wearing in portraits from the Renaissance, etc? Those can't be washed. They spray a lot of perfume on it to mitigate the smell. :funny: Although they did wash their undergarments, so the stuff actually touching their skin would be pretty clean. The best they could do with the outer super-fancy stuff was to shake it off or spot clean, I think...

Well my mouth feels dirty after sleeping for a night, so I brush then before eating. But I don't want my mouth smelling of food or tea/ coffee after breakfast, so I brush then as well. But it's more of a light brushing. I also brush after meals - especially if I've eaten yogurt, ice cream, or anything which makes my teeth feel like they're rotting. I don't like fizzy drinks either, especially Coke, as they feel like my teeth are dissolving away in their acids.

I just like the feeling of a clean mouth and to avoid any breath problems which people can have from food. I certainly could never go to sleep without brushing my teeth.

In my experience, toothpaste interferes with the taste of food more than anything else! :funny: It is also possible to brush too much and wear away enamel. My friend was telling me how her sister's dentist is always telling her not to brush too hard, since she's taken off a lot of enamel that way. I use Sonicare, an electric toothbrush, so I don't have to brush too hard since it does most of the work for me.

Just because brushing your teeth is good doesn't mean that more brushing is more good! :funny: Same with bathing. :cwink:
