Ben Affleck & Ana de Armas in Deep Water

Also, the script had problems from the start, but became more and more dumb near the end.
Why would Affleck's character ever take the wallet of the man he killed? And why would his wife start meddling with his snails so that she can find it? Why would she think it was weird that he wasn't there, in order for her to start poking at his stuff? He even told her he was going to get her scarf from the river.

Speaking of which, why the hell was Letts' character there looking for it? And since Affleck was acting suspiciously and he basically believed he really was a killer why would he yell at him to make himself seen instead of watching him in secret to find out what he does there? And who threatens someone who's trying to murder them? Or who texts on his phone while trying to get away from a murderer by speeding in a rutty mountain road?
It's like the movie wanted to take you from point A to point B without ever bothering to think as to how to get there.

He was calling his wife to prove to her he was right about the guy she wanted to boink? And that he was going to write a book about it?

This movie was actually pretty hilarious. I laughed at a lot of different things throughout, particularly with Affleck's character :funny:

Parts of the movie reminded me of The Room just in their complete inanity and poor acting. The difference? Ben Affleck has multiple Academy Awards. Adrian Lyne is an Academy Award nominee.

The 50 Shades movie trilogy had scenes like this as well.

It's always bizarre to me when movies with actual budgets and amazing talent end up like this. It's almost like there was no one competent editing this movie. Also, a lot of the movie felt unfinished. Didn't feel like there was an actual score and a lot of subplots just don't do anywhere. Kind of like The Snowman with Michael Fassbender.

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure it went to Hulu because it was a Fox/Disney movie

Yeah, I think it was that and just all the delays due to the pandemic. Just shove it out.

I was actually enjoying this for the first hour or so, but my god did this movie get really dumb quick and that ending wasn't satisfying in the least and makes the whole thing just feel pointless IMO.

I thought Ben Affleck and Ana De Armas were good though and I can't say I was ever bored, but I got way more entertainment out of the supporting cast in this, especially the adorable daughter and Lil Rel Howery.

This was a huge waste of talent overall though, but I do hope to see Jacob Elordi get better roles in the future because if you've seen Euphoria, you know just how talented that guy is.
Lil Rel is probably the best male best friend actor out there right now. Get Out, Free Guy, this, The Photograph. He's like the dude Judy Greer.

Damn, from what you guys are saying I'm not even gonna bother.Movie sounds like a hot mess and not even in a fun way. An erotic thriller with Affleck and Armas sounded like a slam dunk but oh well.

You would think and with all the talent attached to this it should be slam dunk. Gone Girl this is not.

Jacob's Ladder, also directed by Adrian Lyne, is one of my favorite movies, but it also came out over 30 years ago. I do think Quentin Tarantino is right that good directors are a lot like good boxers. Eventually they lose their chin so to speak.

The supporting cast needed a lot more fleshing out, for sure. I think that would have helped a lot. I heard 30 minutes of this were cut or maybe they weren't even filmed with the pandemic and whatnot. I got what I wanted out of this movie though and I may be in the minority, but I thought Affleck was pretty good in it. He saved it from being a total disaster

So what are we to assume at the very end when Melinda says she just spoke with Tony? Are we to infer that these guys were just getting bored with her and leaving and that Vic was just fantasizing about killing them? Or that two of them died naturally but he convinced himself he was the killer? Perhaps his way of taking back some of the power she repeatedly stole from him?

Weird movie but I'd be a liar if I said I didn't enjoy it...

She lied to him to let him know she was aware of what he did and that she still chose to stay with him. I don't think it had any binary meaning.

She said it halfway through the movie, she doesn't fear him because he kills for her.

Hybristophilia for the killer cuckold revives their relationship or whatever.

Not a fan of that part either. This movie has a lot of fetishes in it as you can see.

It's so weird how most the supporting cast just leaves the movie after the pool party scene.

interesting to hear that a lot was cut out.

Referring to the bed one, camera felt like it was having a seizure.
Not only the camera work.
Some of the dialogue: "Kiss my ass" and then Afflecks complete monotone responses.
Her: Do you want to **** me?
Affleck (completely monotone and rushed): Yes.

Affleck was the bright spot, but they needed to ugly him up, make him financially dependent on de Armas or cast someone else who's not traditionally in her league.

Some of the worst tertiary dialogue I've ever heard in my life. lol

Any time anyone brings up what they do for work its basically:

This wasn’t a bad movie. Wasn’t the greatest but I think Ben did a nice job.

That scene was so ridiculous, though this movie already had suspended all disbelief for me by that point. Affleck did fine but he was completely miscast, no way I’m buying him as a dude who lets his wife sleep around and publicly humiliate him in the process.

I pretty much had a smirk on my face during the entire movie. The little girl was funny though, so there’s that.

To be fair, she privately humiliated him as well. Lol

when he lotions up her legs while she was topless then turned over, she turned him down. Biggest set of blue balls in history right there.

Yeah a lot of it felt very stilted and awkward to me. It felt like no one was in charge of this ship, or it was left incomplete.

For those unsatisfied with the ending, how so?

Was it that
Vic wasn't caught? Or he didn't kill Melinda?

For me it was mostly the fact that
she was suspecting and accusing him of murder throughout most of the movie and when she finally knew for a fact that he was a killer and decided to leave him, she changed her mind after their kid didn't want to leave and when, I'm guessing, she found thrill in her marriage life. The whole idea of him killing and all members of his family being ok with that, even supporting it, is extremely unrealistic and poorly addressed.
I get the idea behind it, but the execution is terrible and it felt inconsistent. But then again everything was all over the place with this movie.

Makes plenty of sense, especially after

she accused him in front of the detectives. She now gets off on him killing for her.
