Ben Affleck Confirms Live By Night as His Next Feature

Its funny because people rarely even mention Enemy when talking about Villaneuve's filmography almost as if it never happened haha.

But it sucks to see the bad review for Ben. I remember i liked the trailer but didn't love it, it looked like a solid gangster flick but nothing extraordinary. I expected it to be well directed and acted which it seems it is but is still lacking.....that thing to make it pop from what i'm reading in the reviews.

See, now detractors have been waiting for a misfire from Affleck and can use it as ammo sadly.

Supporters are already using it as ammo to feed their disney/critics partnership conspiracy crackpot.

And so the ********** continues from both extremists. Rather, rinse, repeat.

It's unfortunate, but I can't say I didn't see it coming after hearing some of the negative early responses on Twitter, and the rather late embargo.

On an unrelated note, this is officially my first post on this website. I probably won't be using it too often though, since I already have an IMDB account.

IMDB?

Welcome! This board is so much better than imdb :cwink:

Why not? This place isn't filled with people that suffer from stunted emotional growth and disturbing behavior. How do you stomach a place with so much partisan immaturity and almost pathological nastiness?

Also let's not forget Kubrick did Eyes Wide Shut and Villeneuve dropped the ball with Enemy.

Enemy is not for everyone but it has good reviews. And Eyes Wide Shut has 7.4/10 on IMDb or something so even 'plebs' like that movie.

It probably helps that I stopped going to the BvS board. That board has been a horror show ever since the movie was released, and it hasn't really stopped. The boards for the Justice League and Wonder Woman movies are actually fairly civil so far, though I imagine that'll change if the movies end up like BvS and SS...

Kubrick could've taken a crap on the sidewalk and filmed it and people to this day would rave.

Haha, have you never Cameron's Piranha the spawning movie? Awful movie, that was critically panned. I only saw it because it was his directorial debut.

And personally I think Nolan made a poor movie with TDKR, though to be fair I'm probably in the minority in this.

The probably is people always use their personal opinions but just because you don't like something it's hard to go and argue 'well, 3/100 people don't like that movie so f*** majority'.

And Cameron was fired from low-budget Piranha 2. It's a C-movie with terrible production so hard to blame him for that.

Well, if it means anything, this movie's RT rating went up to a 33% with a 6.1 average rating. If it's lucky, it might end up getting a similar final score to The Accountant.

The IMDb boards are the Dante's Inferno of movie discussion.

The bar gets lower with every release, WB should really buy the rights to Limbo.

Pretty much every major studio that's not Disney has been struggling with critics this year. Even though I don't by any means subscribe to the ridiculous conspiracy about Disney bribing critics, it's not surprising that said theory began to really take off this past year.

Enemy had a terribly limited release and no buzz behind it like Sicario and Prisoners had. Shame, because that was a great film too. I hope more people that are paying attention to Villeneuve now go and see it.

I didn't think Live By Night looked very good, but I'm kind of bummed critics don't like it. That sad BvS Affleck gif just gets to me now.

Nah, Nolan's past two films have stunk.

THis is getting bad reviews?

No no no NO. You people did this

I heard the book is very hard to adapt and wasn't written that well in the first place. Maybe that's why this was his hardest film to make?

Polished by CGI to enhance his youthful appearance, Affleck scowls his way through glowing Prohibition-era scenery worthy of a perfume ad and embodies the struggle of Joe’s hard living with a stone-faced glare.

Aha! I KNEW there was something that was bothering me about Affleck's face in the trailers. I remember thinking, "Holy crap what kind of botox disaster did Ben go through for this movie?" But it was CGI. I'm actually kind of relieved that its not plastic surgery or something.

This movie seems like a complex one. it seems like on a technical level its very well made, well shot, well acted, good action, but it seems like the story isn't telling anything new. This sounds like Jason Bourne, which critics also had a lot of issues with but it was technically a very well made movie ( I really enjoyed JB though) So this may be one of those movies where if you just take it at face value for what it is you'll enjoy it but if you're looking for something fresh you'll be disappointed.
