so has anyone on the boards seen this yet? i might go see it for my birthday next week

Oh Lively is terrible on the show but for some reason I like her. Meester is far, far above her in every way in my heart but I didn't mention her because she's not in the movie.
Ah, I gotcha. GG must be quite the girl-crush-y show for you then. :cwink:

And yeah, Meester must have a crappy agent or something, because it seems to me based on what I've seen, that she should easily be the break-out star of the show instead of Lively. But oh well, I'm hearing Lively is surprisingly good in this film, so I'm trying to approach it with an open mind.

LOL even if Devil was screened, would it still have been a hard choice?

No, probably not. But I was hoping that Devil would be one of those surprises where the concept seems to ridiculous but when you see it, it's pretty mind-blowing.

I have to learn to refrain from optimism at all times. :csad:

I loved it, really good story. Loved the action. The bank robbery scenes along with the chase. Some real awesome stuff. I actually wanna see it again.

I'm going tonight. I was debating between this and Devil. But this got great reviews, while Devil wasn't screened to critics.

When I saw that, it wasn't hard to choose.

This movie made me forget Devil was coming out this weekend.

I thought everything about it was top notch. Everyone gave a great performance . The action was visceral and a lot of attention to detail
in the robberies . Some of the best shootouts since Heat.

The Town 10/10

The Town.......... 10/10

The ****ing movie owned! Wow, this was everything and a **** ton more than The Departed, which I think wasn't all that great especially after the first viewing. Where to start?

First, bravo Ben. You are a stud. I knew he's going to be a growing director but to grow this much since Gone Baby Gone, damn. The scenery was great, you actully felt Boston unlike Departed. Fenway! Both robberies were great and the chase that ensued after the second was great. Ben, Rebecca Hall, Don Draper and the MIB were great, even so was Blake. She really amazed me, since all I can picture as is a 16 year old "The Hills" type girl. I really am pumped she is in Green Lantern now. The guy who played the "tattoo" friend (Renner) was ****ing the stand-out actor, I loved him. Also, Ben's comedy was great. The crowd and I just loved all the lines that were almost put in there to laugh at the same said lines in other movies, just brilliant. Really just an amazing film. Mad props for the inclusion of hockey stuff, I love that ****....

"Go **** Yourself"

2010; 1. Inception 2. Toy Story III 3. The Town 4. I'm Still Here

I hate how their hasn't been a ton of solid flicks up to this point (September) but the four that are great, have been ****ing great...

This film was excellent. The robbery scenes were tight and suspenseful. The chase scene and armored car robbery had me on the edge of my seat.

Jeremy Renner stole the show in my book.

I really really dug this movie, I went in with no expectations, and it pretty well blew me away. It was an interesting movie, because although the affleck and his crew are pretty unethical in everything they do, you have to root for them because the main FBI agent is a total a##hole. This film featured one of the best and nerve racking car chases I've ever seen, and some pretty good gun fights and heist plots. I had absolutly no problem with any of the cast. Ben Affleck I thought was very good, but I also liked John Hamm, though I seriously just wanted to punch him by the end of it. Renner was fantastic, he reminded me of some kind of New England Pit Bull. the last shot of the film just didn't ring true for me though.

I give it a 9.5 out of 10.

Cant wait to see this movie. It looks good and the comments here make me even more curious!

Surprised this many people are giving it such high scores. Was going to wait for Netflix but I might check this out in the theatre if it's that good of a crime film.

How are the bank robberies compared to the one in Heat?

They said "Heat meets The Departed" which is quite a bold statement to make. I'm thinking of seeing it. Maybe next weekend or something.

I think it retains a nice feel of Heat. But seeing as Heat is in my top five movies of all time. I would have to say the armored car robbery beats out the bank robbery in Heat in terms of suspense.

I'm going too see this film in theaters again.

I'm a huge Mad Men fan, so I wanted to see this mainly for Jon Hamm...but I'm hearing it's great, so I'll have to check it out one night this week.

Jon Hamm also did a great job as the hard hitting FBI Agent. Definitely a worthy match for Affleck's crew in the film.

Absolutely loved it from start to finish. Not a single weak performance in the movie. It's well edited, and paced.

Affleck has a good hold on the director's chair, shots are well composed, and there's some really vivid imagery, notably the van of nuns with assault rifles, and Affleck looks a bit like the [BLACKOUT]angel of death in the opening bank robbery as he's watching her at the safe.[/BLACKOUT]

Seriously can't wait to see this now!

I wonder if Matt Damon is getting pissed since he was always considered the more talented of the two.

Those type of comparisons/tag lines get thrown in front of movies like Takers
but at least with the Town they aren't too far off. I'll probably see it again tonight.

I enjoyed it. Good sense of humor mixed in.

A testament to how well done it was cause I called every twist and turn from just the get-go. Including the "fruit scene"

I liked it but then again I like tough guy crime pictures so it's not hard to please me.

The Town

8/10

It's a very basic but well done movie. Didn't buy Affleck in his role. He just didn't come off tough enough and he isn't a leading man IMHO. Leading man looks don't equal leading man so I wish he hadn't cast himself. Nobody should be winning any oscars but the rest of the cast is solid. I didn't like Gone Baby Gone but I liked this and will be willing to give more Ben Affleck directed movies a shot.

P.S

I love looking at/watching Jon Hamm, even when he is playing the thankless FBI agent role.

Ha, I guess it is.

I'm think it's that damn singing career thats tripping Meester up, that and the media's love of tall blondes. I liked Lively in the film.

I thought this was excellent. This was a superb crime thriller.

Roger Ebert once said, "It's not what a movie is about, but how it goes about it."

The story of this film is a bit predictable and basic. However, the execution was beautiful. The cast was good all around (even Ben Affleck!) with the standouts being Jeremy Renner and the Florist (Pete something).

It was just a very well told story that was surprisingly moving in its own way. I liked the characters and this had the best bank heists this side of Heat, excluding TDK.

I believe Affleck has proven himself to be a very good director. This is a much smoother and more confidently told film than Gone Baby Gone. Gone Baby Gone had a better, more original script. But that is it because it was based on one of Dennis Lehane's best and clever novels.

Due to the execution of this film I think he has proven himself to have grown in leaps and bounds as a director. I cannot wait to see what he does next.
