Ben Wheatley's Free Fire - Hard-boiled arms deal gone wrong

''Free Fire Clip | Meeting Vernon'' on youtube
:lmao::bow:

Got tickets for tomorrow! Finally going to see a Ben Wheatley film on the big screen.

Checking this out tonight with a live stream Q&A with Bean Wheatley afterwards at my local Alamo Drafthouse. I'm pretty pumped for it.

Saw it a few weeks ago when it was released here. Very good and surprisingly has a fair bit of slapstick to it.

Saw this last night and had a ball with it. I liked it a lot, but didn't love it. The cast was fantastic, with Hammer and Copley stealing the show. However, I found it dragged extremely long in parts and didn't find any of the deaths all that rewarding for the buildup and wait. Overall, a very solid time at the movies. 7/10

I pretty much agree with this.

Sooooo close to being great, but not quite there. Still very fun.

I saw this today and this is about where I'm at. Decent enough movie but it's hard to keep a shoot out going that long, even though the film was fairly short.

Fun film. Armie and Sharlto were on point as usual. I find that it's rather slow to get started too, since we all know why we're watching this film - to see Brie Larson, Armie Hammer etc. shoot people in a confined space. But the humor was great.

I actually enjoyed Free Fire more than almost any other movie I've seen so far this year, with the exception of Logan.

I liked the movie but it clearly was going for the classic gangster one-liner fest and it did not hit that mark.

I thought this was fun.

The MVP's for me were Sharlto Copley doing his crazy South African guy thing and Sam Riley's loud mouth Junkie Stevo.

Riley really surprised me as he was playing against type. Usually Riley plays introspective introvert types but he was great as a brash loud mouth low life in this.

Nice Tom Davis guest appearance. When he showed up it gave me Murder In Successville flashbacks.

The funniest parts for me was when
Martin was shot in head the head but was still alive.

Echoing the liked but not love it sentiment. It's dragged out in some parts, while rather fun in others. Some of the actors did sell this for me though. Ben Wheatley is an interesting director regardless and it will be interesting to see what he does next.
