i know, i was just saying why i can see people not liking kubrik, and 2001 is the embodyment of kubrik's more....niche elements? I understand why you don't like 2001, fair opinion:) , just not mine.

What's your fav kubrik then?

I really hadn't thought about it. I liked The Killing and Strangelove. I haven't seen Lolita yet.

I still need to see 2001 SPace Odessy, I might go out and rent it tonight, and come back. Brazil I've seen at least 5-6 times in the past 3 years when I first discovered it in my Library. The movie is a cinematic genius, from the visuals, to the witty dialogue, just utterly superb. And my god, for any fan get the criterion edition and watch the butchered cut, it's utterly unreal...

I like you:up: . Do you like other terry gilliam films? Brazil is prob my fav one of his, although i like fear and loathing, and the fisher king, and twelve monkeys, lol. Great director, great movie.

barry lyndon is pretty amazing! It's hard to pick one though, he has made a perfect movie in lots of different genre's!

I like "Fear and Loathing" for his visual style but as a movie it's really about nothing and more of a supplement to the book which I have to read. I love Adventures of the Baron Muchausen and 12 Monkies, and of course the Holy Grail. I dug Brothers Grimm but it's doesn't reach the level of his older films. I've yet to see Jaberwocky, The Crimson Permanent Assurance, and The Fisher King. I saw the first 40 minutes of Time Bandits and thought it was really boring so I never finished it... But other than that I love Gilliam

brothers grimm was made just for cash to fund tideland and a project with johnny depp soon, so you can't judge it as true gilliam, the porducers were over his shoulder all the time, hampering his creativity, he even left the post-production team for a while cause he hated it so much.

tideland is released early next year i think, it's been described as 'alison in wonderland meets psycho', i'm sold already!

I have to give Barry Lyndon another watch, I haven't seen it in a while.

I don't know I'm not going just disreguard ths project as never happening, I'm sure Terry Gilliam wouldn't either since he seems to be a man of integrity, he made the film and that's that. I mean Scorcese made Cape Fear to get money for Last Temptation of the Christ but that was pretty damn good. But I do hope to see that Terry Gilliam flare with Tideland... You see the documentry, "Lost in LaMancha"

first half is better, but still an amazing film. It's got to be up there as one of the all time greats, I HATE period drama's sooooooo much, yet this film was superb, that's like selling a christian islam! well done Kubrik!

the film they were making in that, 'the man who killed......', that's what gillliam is going to try to make again with Depp, thats why depp did POTC 2+3 and gilliam did brothers grimm, (I did a thesis on gilliam, amazing fun!)

I liked Scorsese's remake, but I prefer the original, since Mitchum is just so cool in that role.

Cape Fear like I said is pretty damn good but it's far from great, I really want to see the original, I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

It's not exactly a masterpiece, but I'll watch anything if it has Mitchum in it, so I enjoyed it.

what's people's opinions on Scorsese? Taxi driver was deathly boring, why is it so overrated?

I disagree entirely on your position on Scorsese and refuse to discuss it.

Scorsese= Genius... As for Taxi Driver, I'm too young to really understand it but cinematically it's great. I liked and enjoyed Mean Streets more but his best 70s film and perhaps best film to date is Raging Bull, that **** kicks ass

here we go, i think taxi driver is very boring, it's poorly paced and I fully understands it's about an unpleasant and horrible world, but they didn't have to make the film horrible as well! There are about 5 shots I enjoyed in the film, other than that, it was way to lengthy for it's own good. It needed a good kick up the ass! I think DeNiro is overrated as an actor, and this film lacks character, I find it very difficult to care about anyone involved. This film makes me generally avoid his films, although I like his opinions on other people's work from interviews, he's a big bogart fan, YAY!!!

matrix and sw ......... but i chose matrix.

sw will obviously win.....seeing as how theres no matrix fans

Dude... Aviator, Gangs of New York, Raging Bull, Casino, Good Fellas, Mean Streets, all this **** is gold  Actually Mean Streets and Casino run a little long... But Aviator was one of the best if not the best film of 2004, it was incredible

I completely disagree for reasons I don't care to get into with you. I completely love Taxi Driver.

I love Bogart.

The Aviator was the ****.
Cate Blanchett was awesome as Katherine Hephburn.

RETURN OF THE JEDI!!!!

But since it is not on there, I said Star Wars.

matrix is a neo-classic(no pun intended), and i think Brazil is a more architypal sci-fi than twelve monkeys. The thing may have been good for the poll, but there are much better earlier versions of that sort of thing included.

Its more acclaimed because it leaves gaps for people to fill in which they create into something else, part of themselves which they will obviously want to find agreeable. By this I mean if you give a non-sensical picture of 'something' to a person, they will try to make sense of it by seeing what they want to. I don't think there are better versions of the thing, the blob for me is utter rubbish, has nowhere near the amount of suspense dripping off the thing. Being 'first' doesn't make it better. A caveman may have come up with the wheel, but I'll take a Ferrari over the caveman's crappy rock.
