No ties, no ands, nor ors, no honorable mentions.

Just one single movie, released between 1st Jan 2009 and 31st December 2013 that you think is the best of the period.

I would go with

Amour by Michael Haneke

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1602620/

What would you pick?

I don't own enough monocles to answer a question like this. :o

The best I've seen is City of Life and Death by Lu Chan.

I don't watch loads of movies but I adored Tangled. Could watch that over and over

That was quite good, a good, realistic treatment of the software development.

But what was the point of the manufactured unrequited love subplot?

Because it allowed the ending with the character of Zuckerberg sitting alone, hitting reload waiting for a reply to his friend request. That pretty much sums up the whole movie and its particular moment in time.

This is a hard question to answer but I'm going to have to go out on a limb and say Inglourious Basterds.

I found it slightly reductive that after a entire ****storm of hurt feelings and contention and lawsuits and everything... it reduced the movie to that. Like seriously that is where he would end up after it all?

It seemed like a manufactured conclusion, a forced poignancy, that did not naturally compute from the film before it.

But it is nevertheless an artful film albeit absent a strong worldview and has a certain detached coldness from its director that might not have been the best choice for the scenario presented.

In terms of visuals and special effects, it's Avatar

And Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master becomes the first film to receive multiple mentions.

Zero Dark Thirty just about wins it for me (but I dont get to see Wolf of Wall Steet till next week)

I'm with you. I used to try to be more snobbish about movies (I feel like everyone goes through that, especially when they get to college), but now I'm just like "which movie did I enjoy watching the most?" Whichever movie answers that question is the best movie for me.

Avengers it is.

Toy Story 3 is another one that is way up there.
