The SHH's Best/ Most Iconic Movie Theme of All Time Tournament: NOMINATIONS

Incredibles main theme
Indiana jones theme
Pirates of the Caribbean theme
Star Wars main theme
Star Wars throne room end titles theme
Up main theme
Tron legacy- the grid
Tron legacy- end titles, main theme

Are we allowed to pull a song from any score and use it? Or do they all have to main themes?

For example...could I use this from Superman Returns(You're Not One Of Them) and not the main John Williams theme?

Hmm. The thing is that it will start becoming a tournament about movie scores rather than themes, and if I wanted to run a movie scores tournament in the future, people will have used them all up.

I'd have to judge it on a case by case basis, and in this case that theme isn't all that well known. In the case of the Imperial March from Star Wars or the Ecstasy of Gold from The Good, The Bad and the Ugly, those themes are extremely well known from those movies, and often known outside of those movies even if people haven't watched the films. So where an alternative theme becomes almost as well known as the main theme, I'd say yes.

In this case, I think I'd have to say no.

On another note, I think I have to disallow one of my own suggestions: "Bridge on the River Kwai March", because the well-known theme is actually the "Colonel Bogey" military march which predates the film, even though it is almost synonymous now with the movie. :cmad:

Not sure I can include that one. I just disqualified it from my own list (I had included it too) because I discovered that the Colonel Bogey March is actually a military march written by Lt FJ Ricketts in 1914 which predates the Bridge on the River Kwai (which was in 1957) so isn't original to the film. It was just a popular march used in the movie. Malcolm Arnold only wrote the counter march which plays underneath, but the main famous melody is by Ricketts.

You can hear Rickett's composition here and it is definitely the main melody:

Not really sure what Arnold's contribution is.
