Hey guys,
I have seen the Dark Horse Star Wars comics every time I've visited the shop, but I haven't picked many up. Are there any exceptional ones?
Any trades or Graphic novels that are just awesome?
I bought the JangoFett one and really enjoyed it.

ive only bought some of the star wars tales volumes (which contains stories ranging from awful to good/great, most just pretty decent), the first volume of star wars rebellion, and star wars dark force rising (they did some based off the original Timothy Zahn novels). I wouldn't really recommend the latter pair, but the Star Wars Tales volumes are a highlight though, nice range of stories and comic-styles, and lots of in-references and jokes (plus, you can pick up any volume out of order, which is always handy).

I'm reading Dark Times and it's pretty good. I wouldn't say exceptional, but it's got potential, and will hopefully get better as time goes on.

Currently reading Legacy. It's set roughly 100 years after the OT. The main character is Cade Skywalker, a descendent of Luke. (Legacy also incorporates the literary EU that takes place after the OT. Stuff like the Yuuzhan Vong War plays a significant part in the events of the book. However, you don't have to be all that familiar with the Yuuzhan Vong/New Jedi Order books to understand Legacy, but it helps)

Other SW books I liked: the defunct Republic series, some of which has been collected in the DH Clone Wars TPB. Excellent artwork, writing. It was better than just about anything Lucas put onscreen during the prequel films.

Quinlan Vos-I can't remember the name of the several small TPBs he was featured in, but I enjoyed the ones I read. He's one of the most interesting EU Jedi, and he also was featured in the Republic series and the Clone War comic books.

For the older stuff: Dark Empire 1 & 2 (Empire's End, the third part of the DE wasn't that good, but I guess you'll want to check it out if you like the first two parts), Crimson Empire 1 (I didn't think CE 2 was as good), Dark Lords of the Sith, The Sith War

I love the universe that Legacy has set up (the Imperial Knights are a particularly nice addition), but I really really really don't like Cade. Guy just feels like they're trying way too hard to make him a "badass," and instead he just comes off like a *****e.

The best ever Star Wars comic is Dark Empire. Not only is it the comic that feels most like a Star Wars movie, not only does it have superbly atmospheric artwork, but Lucas himself has said it's the most similar to an Episode VII of anything released.

It's actually one of my favourite comicbooks ever, and that's saying something as I find most Star Wars comics very poor attempts to merely mimick the movies.

The Clone Wars comics (not the ones based on the cartoon) are, by and large, crap. Very basic plot lines, little in the way of characterisation, and fatally, weak action. I've just re-read voulme 2, Victories & Sacrifices, and it sucks.

Empire for me. Especially the first storyline with that officer dude (can't remember his name, somethin' with a J) around issues 15-17.

EDIT: Janek Sunber, thats the guys name

Lucas likes Vos. He was mentioned in Revenge of the Sith and was initially going to actually going to appear in it.

I'm reading KOTOR and Legacy right now. Both good stuff. Obi-Wan's appearance in Legacy was really cool, and KOTOR's been consistently good, if a bit slow.

Thanks so much guys.
So the Clone Wars stuff was no good? I really really enjoyed the new trilogy and wanted some stuff around that time period or further back but there are so many books I have no idea where to start.
I'll definitely be picking up KOTOR. Do you guys know any trades with Quinlin Vos in them that I could pick up?

Vos actually appears in Episode I - kind of. The character's appearence is taken from an extra in Tantooine.

I haven't read Dark Empire since I was in high school. It's somewhere in some boxes in my parents attic that I'm just too damn lazy to get out of there. But, the first series was excellent. Dark Empire 2 was good, just not as good. And as said earlier, the third series which was only 2 issues and concluded everything was just crap.

The stuff that I really liked were the Tales of the Jedi. Knights of the Old Republic, Dark Lords of The Sith, and The Sith War were my favorites. I never got around to reading The Golden Age of The Sith or The Fall of The Sith Empire.

I also heard that the Star Wars comics that Marvel published weren't that bad. If you can still find them in stores, they've been collected in trades by Dark Horse.

Best Star Wars spin-offs ever...

1. Clone Wars cartoon
2. Dark Empire

Get it. Avoid the sequel like the plague, though. It actually even ties in nicely with Dark Empire, but it is very much a stand alone story. Brilliant in every way.

Tales of the Jedi: The Sith War

"Star Wars Tales" was hit or miss sometimes, but overall a pretty good anthology series.
