Pick the best SH movie of summer 2012

  • The Amazing Spider-man

  • The Avengers

  • The Dark Knight Rises

Essentially both The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers win the title of Best Summer blockbusters of 2012 for different reasons.

Seeing both TA and TDKR having more than 100 votes...I can officially say that I feel really bad seeing TAS-M's votes when I pop into this thread.

I agree.
I voted avengers though because i know there are a huge number of bat fans on here. lol

First post, yay! Avengers was #1 for me. It was the one I was most hyped for, and it exceeded my expectations. The entertainment factor alone makes it #1. It may have flaws within it, but the good ultimately outweighs the bad, therefore scoring a 10/10 in my mind.
TDKR and TASM both left me feeling satisfied as CBMs. But there were just too many gripes I had about them, and the more I think about them, the more this empty feeling inside of me becomes present. I guess they were both great movies, but there was just some flavor missing. TA had that missing flavor. That’s the best way I can describe it lol.
Anyways, in short, after seeing The Avengers, I feel compelled to stand on a rooftop overlooking the entire world, and victoriously shout, at the top of my lungs, “JOSS IS BOSS!”

Hope that was an acceptable first post:yay:

Don't get me wrong, I like Nolan's Batman...but I'm more of a moderate purist when it comes to comic movies and I feel Nolan gutted all the characters in order to make them more "real" for his movies...which in turn just made it less fun for me.

The thing is that to me, Whedon basically put the comic book onscreen. Nolan felt like he took an interpretation of Batman, of which there has been dozens, and chose the more noir grounded route. I felt like I was seeing an actual story from the Avengers in live action though, from the 60s almost.

TDKR for it's ballsy ending.

Nolan sending Bruce off into the sunset was a big risk. And, for most of us, it was a very satisfying series ending.

(I want to add: Avengers was very impressive).

Lol , this is not even an competition. Of course its TDKR.

Being the same genre means nothing. Comparing a scooby doo level type of writing and filmmaking , versus a tremendous operatic movie....

This would be like asking to choose between a samurai movie , A Kurosawa one vs American Samurai with Michael Bradley.

Two completely different levels of cinema. Not even comparable.

:whatever:

Avengers gets my vote. The other two had quality moments, but didn't feel as seemless and slick.

What ? Isn't the question of the topic , which one was the best ?

I believe a lot of people actually enjoy american samurai , but it being a better movie than a Kurosawa (gosha , okamoto ,etc) ? Of course that's preposterous.

To me the disparity between TDKR and any other comics movie adaption of this summer , is in a similar degree than the comparison i made.

Scooby Doo. Really.

Scooby Doo. Really.

Have you heard the dialogues of it? It looks like everyone speaks like a 10 year old , making witty remarks. So yeah its scooby doish.

I know people enjoy Transformers movies and other stuff. I can deal with that. I strongly disagree if anyone says that is a good movie , but there's definitely an audience for that type of movie. I respect that. I just don't how this is even an competition (well considering the votes in this topic...it isn't ! Thats quite nice)

Have to go with TDKR, even if it is the weakest of the Nolan Trilogy. Was pleasantly surprised by TASM, didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did.

Avengers blows the other two out of the water, for me.

I hate to be this guy (perhaps it's from re-watching TDKR and The Avengers recently -- and after watching TDKR 6x and The Avengers 4x) but the glaring flaws from both films seem to stand out significantly more. I guess it could be attributed to fatigue but I'm in no hurry to see both films again until 2013.

That said, Rises had the better story and supporting characters. So, I still give Rises the edge.

I gave Avengers my vote, but i gotta say...out of the three movies, TAS got the best characters and characters moments.Maybe it's because the amazing chemistry between Garfield and Stone. What killed the movie for me was actually the Spiderman bits...too much CGI.

Avengers was the better 'comic book movie' BUT TDKR was the better movie

Avengers
TDKR close second

And TASM a distant distant far far off third. for me personally.

I think this can be a knee jerk reaction to a more mature storyline.

It's the reason Annie Hall beat Star Wars A New Hope for Best Picture.

But is Annie Hall really better all around or just better with certain "respectable" details like dialogue and editing.
