‘Breaking Bad’s Jonathan Banks Joins Prequel Series ‘Better Call Saul’ For AMC
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

EXCLUSIVE: Jonathan Banks has joined Bob Odenkirk in Better Call Saul, AMC/Sony TV’s upcoming prequel to Emmy-winning Breaking Bad that centers on Odenkirk‘s unflappable criminal lawyer Saul Goodman. Banks will be a series regular on the show conceived by Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan and Breaking Bad writer-producer Peter Gould. The prequel series, slated to debut on AMC in November, will chronicle the evolution of Saul before he ever became Walter White’s lawyer. The deal with Banks means that Saul will have his trusted private investigator/fixer Michael “Mike” Ehrmantraut by his side. Banks was a regular on Breaking Bad and played Ehrmantraut for 2.5 seasons after being introduced in the drama series’ second-season finale. A former Philadelphia police officer, Mike worked as the the Head of Corporate Security at Los Pollos Hermano and enforcer in Gustavo Fring’s crystal meth operation. He later became involved with Walt (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse (Aaron Paul), ultimately getting shot and killed by Walt in the Season 5A finale while trying to quit the drug business. Banks’ performance in the 2012 portion of Season 5 earned him an Emmy nomination, one of two for the veteran actor. (The first was for his role on the 1987 drama series Wiseguy).

Odenkirk and Banks are the only actors set for Better Call Saul so far. There has been a lot of speculation about which characters from Breaking Bad would make the transition to the prequel. In an interview, Gilligan had suggested that Mike would be a character he would love to see on the new series. Jesse also has been talked about, with Paul and Cranston both stating publicly they would like to be part of the spinoff. The Better Call Saul gig further expands Banks’ relationship with Sony TV, where he currently recurs on the studio’s NBC comedy Community. He also will be seen in the upcoming Horrible Bosses 2.
AHHHHHHH!!! :awesome::up:

I saw Sawyer was the most recent reply and knew that this was what he would be posting. **** yes.

I figured he'd make an appearance, but season regular? Niiiiice.

I can't remember, did he give an actual time period to his story he told Walt in "Half Measures"? I'm wondering if this could pick up some time after that and essentially serve as the origin of Mike's life of crime...

Yes yes yes!!!!! Hope he can still be on Community next season though

Great news. He's tearing it up over in Community.

Well...you know how they say? "It's been a pleasure?" It hasn't. [/Mike]

I know this is thinking ahead but....... I can't wait too see the moment Mike gets that fateful call that brings him into the world of Walt and Jesse.

He's signed as a series regular but he may not appear in every episode, they just want to lock him up so he can't go do another gig. However he'll probably appear in most if not all I would imagine.

Hopefully this opens up an episode with Gus!

Michael McKean To Co-Star In ‘Breaking Bad’ Prequel Series ‘Better Call Saul’
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

EXCLUSIVE: I have learned that veteran actor Michael McKean (This Is Spinal Tap) is the first new cast member to join AMC’s upcoming series Better Call Saul, joining Breaking Bad alums Bob Odenkirk and Jonathan Bank. The prequel to the Emmy-winning Breaking Bad, from Sony TV, centers on Odenkirk‘s unflappable criminal lawyer Saul Goodman before he became Walter White’s lawyer. Banks reprises his role as Saul’s trusted private investigator/fixer Michael “Mike” Ehrmantraut. McKean will play a new character, Dr. Thurber, a brilliant attorney who is now restricted by an unusual affliction. Better Call Saul is slated to debut in November. Dream On alum McKean is repped by APA and Harriet Sternberg.
:awesome:

Can we see Huell if it's a prequel? Saul didn't have him til about season 3 right?

Michael McKean and Bon Odenkirk sounds like a winner to me.

He didn't appear until season 3, but in all fairness, it's not like Walt ever spent a great deal of time at Saul's business during that period of time, so he conceivably could have been working there and we just never has the opportunity to see him.

I really hope we get to see him defend Badger or Skinny Pete at some point. Badger might not work, since I can't remember if they reference Saul's first appearance in Breaking Bad being his first time with Badger.
