While browsing the web, I found a lengthy but fascinating article by an African American blogger about the X-Men's metaphor of intolerance and being different. What he specifically looks at is of course the original metaphor of the civil rights movement and how Kirby and Lee based Xavier on MLK and Magneto on Malcom X. What is interesting about this article is it is in fact a criticism about how the metaphor is more of a stereotype of what white people see racism and their views of the movement. I really encourage you to read it. It's a bit long, but brings up some interesting points that I never even thaught of before:
