The Big Bang Theory has been a staple of my TV diet for the past 12 years. Over that time it's had its ups and downs. The early seasons were downright hillarious, real LMFAO stuff. The later seasons were mostly enjoyable but felt like they also contained a lot of filler.
Unlike most sitcoms the characters have evolved significantly over time, as have their relationships (both friendships and romantic). While I have largely enjoyed that development, I feel like it didn't require 12 seasons for us to get there.
Anyway, while there's a thread for discussing the show in general, I feel like the context of its imminent ending (and its global significance) put a different spin on that discussion and it's worth having a thread to look back on its history and have a chat about it, and its best moments.
Okay, so in terms of "Bests"
Best season... Season 2, simply because it had the most episodes that made me howl with laughter. Pretty much every episode had a moment where I was nearly rolling on the floor. I would pretty much have to talk about every episode to go through all the laughs. ( Penny's online gaming addiction, the Penny Blossom business venture, the boys go to Vegas..... yeah it's all awesome).
OMG best lines:
"If you really want to clean up your karma, go get my frickin latte ."
"We're here to cheer up Koothrappali, not KILL Batman !"
Best episode Season 2, "The Classified Materials Turbulence" The **** hits the fan when Howard's Space toilet turns out to have a massive design flaw, and Penny goes out with Stuart.
I just howled during this episode - it's just so damn funny.
Best male character: Howard, he's provided the best comic timing and terrific one liners. He's also grown the most of any of the guys, without ceasing to be funny.
Best female character: This is tough. Bernadette is hilarious, particularly when her crazy, competitive aggressive streak comes out (the Scavenger Hunt episode......LMFAO !). However, in the later seasons Amy has really come into her own as a character. She's grown more than Bernadette or Penny, and when she puts Sheldon in his place can be great. Can't decide between them.
Best supporting character: This is also tough, Leonard's mum is so awful that she's great, Sheldon's mum manages to be funny as well as a nice contrast to her son, Barry Kripke always adds an extra element of fun.... I'm going to have to go with Mary Cooper, particulalry in her early appearances where she sorts Sheldon out.
Best guest star: Stephen Hawking, some very good one-liners from the late great Dr Hawking "Great, another fainter" - one thing I've loved about the show is that it has some terrific unintentional foreshadowing e.g when the boys consider recruiting "That girl from Tv's Blossom" for their quiz team, but in episode 1 Howard mimics Dr Hawking, great to see him become a recurring character.
