Following a leak this weekend, THQ Nordic and new developer Experiment 101 have officially announced Biomutant, a post-apocalyptic open-world action RPG, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It will launch in 2018.
A collector’s edition will be available for $119 and include a copy of the game, official soundtrack, figurine, A1 artwork on fabric, and premium box.

Biomutant is a post-apocalyptic open-world ARPG that delivers real-time melee, shooter and mutant ability action. Replayability by varied and deep character progression, exploration of three systematically generated worlds, an underworld and a small solar system, by foot, mech, air-balloon, jetski and UFO. Biomutant also features a fully customizable (MMO style) character and mutation system, bionics and creative item crafting, plus an interactive narrative featuring a contextual storyteller where the players creates their own story of survival in a vibrant colorful world.

IGN has gone up with an 11-minute gameplay video of the Biomutant gameplay demo playable on the Gamescom 2017 show floor.


The recently announced open-world action RPG puts players in the role of a furry customizable protagonist who uses martial arts style combat that blends melee, shooter, and mutant abilities, and follows an interactive narrative featuring a contextual storyteller where the player creates their own story.


Biomutant is due out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in early 2018.

THQ Nordic has acquired 100 percent of the shares of Experiment 101, the Stockholm-based developer of the upcoming “kung-fu fable RPG” Biomutant, as well as the Biomutant property itself.

Learning new Wushu combat forms through progression and learning from masters you’ll meet, will constantly add to your choices and make sure combat never gets old.
  • Evolve Your Gameplay – You’ll be able to re-code your genetic structure to change the way you look and play. This will of course affect your attributes and in addition to this, exposure to bio-contamination in the world will lead to physical mutations like mantis-claws and barbed tails, while exposure to radioactivity found in bunkers from the old world will affect your mind and unlock psi-mutations like telekinesis, levitation and more.
  • Next Level of Crafting – You are totally free when crafting weapons. Mix and match parts to create your own unique 1H or 2H slash, crush and pierce melee weapons. Revolvers, rifles and shotguns and add modifications like cork-screws and battery-powered chainsaw modules to bio-contaminated sludge vials adding to your combat arsenal. There are even characters you’ll meet that’ll craft cool stuff for you, like bionic wings, a jump-pack and even let you modify your Automaton – the scrap-toy sidekick!
  • Gear Up for Adventure – You are totally free when equipping your character. Not only when it comes to choosing weapons you created, but what type of gear you wear. Equip a gas-mask and an oxygen tank for exploring the Dead Zones, thermos-resistant clothes for venturing into cryonic areas or protective gear for taking on bio-contaminated creatures, the choice is up to you.
  • Survive in a Vibrant Open World – You are free to explore the world and what lies beneath its surface, by foot, mech, jet-ski, air-balloon or area unique mounts. Explore the dying wildland, the tunnels and bunker networks of the underworld, and find your way up the mountains or out in the archipelago. There are lots of discoveries to be made, mysteries to unravel, creatures to confront and weird characters to meet in this vibrant and colorful world.
  • An Unusual Story with an Unusual End – Your actions play a major part in the unfolding of a story where End is coming to the New World. While Biomutant was announced back in August 2017, we still know shockingly little about the Experiment 101-developed role-playing video game – thankfully, this new gameplay footage sheds some light on Biomutant's post-apocalyptic universe and martial arts-styled combat mechanics.

Shared by YouTuber Edge Official, the brand-new video is not only pretty lengthy (it will take you almost 30 minutes of finish watching it from the beginning to end), but also impressively informative.

Given that Biomutant is being developed by the former creators of the Just Cause series, it comes as no surprise that the title is fast-paced, with huge enemies trying to kill the little hero. Thankfully, our protagonist is ready to wage every war, equipment with useful gadgets and skills (like the ability to create an enormous bubble of water that can be used to slow down enemies or hurt them badly).

In Biomutant, you play as a hamster-like humanoid who has to find a way to stop a deadly plague that is corrupting his homeland. Considering that the in-game Tribes stand divided, they desperately need someone strong enough to unite them and end the curse – and that obviously is the player's role.
