Bionic Woman pilot commissioned by NBC

well seeing as he did a great job with BSG i hope he can do the same with this.

"Battlestar Galactica" executive producer David Eick is teaming with feature screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis to reinvent The Bionic Woman for NBC, says Variety.

Eick and Kalogridis will executive produce a new take on "Bionic," a 1970s spinoff of "The Six Million Dollar Man" in which Lindsay Wagner played tennis pro-turned-superwoman Jamie Sommers. The series aired for two seasons on ABC before shifting to NBC in 1977 for its final year.

"It's a complete reconceptualization of the title," Eick told the trade. "We're using the title as a starting point, and that's all."

NBC Universal Television Studio is producing the new take, which has been given a script commitment by the network.

Instead of focusing on terrorism and militarism, the new "Bionic" will explore the role of professional women in contemporary society and how they juggle their various roles.

"It's using the idea of artificial technology as a metaphor for what contemporary women sometimes feel is necessary to do everything that needs to be done," Eick said.

That doesn't excatly instill me with a great desire to see this. A simple update of the original would have sufficed. Why even link it to the original if ti's going to bear no resemblance to it?

it isn't linked it to the original it just had the name.

What about the "V" series? That was supposed to be in production a few years ago. I'd like to see V before Bionic Woman.

I didn't mean linked in terms of acknowledging the past series, but rather how they're making mention to the old show since it has nothing to do with it. What's the purpose in referencing 'Bionic' Woman' only to say "Yeah, this is nothing like that". How is this a spinoff? It's like making a tough and gritty police drama and calling it 'Punky Brewster'.

well if she has bionic parts and is a woman that would make her a bionic woman by default.

That's fine. Make a show about a woman who has bionic parts. Use bionic in the title. Cool. But why make specific reference to another show that has no connection to this one other than nominally? How can a spinoff not be related to the original. That doesn't make sense. NBC has had recent shows that deal with lawyers, but they didn't call them a spinoff of 'Night Court'.

Gotta agree with the others here...I was very interested to see that we might be seeing some Bionic Action back on TV. But when I read that synopsis, I was really let down. Really...who wants to see a soccer mom using her bionic abilities to get the kids to practice, grocery shop and cook dinner? The exciting aspect of the original show was the use of bionic ability in espionage and saving the world! What has made Galactica so successful is that the relaunch kept the best aspects of the original storyline, then fleshed it out with character driven drama...where's the drama in using bionics to change a flat on the family minivan?!?

If this lady is on it, I'm thinking the project is screwed. Take a look at her resume.

I hated Birds of Prey.

..that's what I was thinking.. that this is going to be some kind of post-modern semi-satire about suburban life. Desperate Housewives with more stunts..

heh-heh.. I wonder if they're going to invite Lee Majors or Lindsay Wagner for supporting roles?
