Horror Blumhouse and James Wan to bring us M3gan

Day EFFING one!, well more like two as I work nights so seeing it Saturday :funny:

I'm already there day 1 so will be skipping the trailer in case it's too spoilerish.

You made the right call. This one does reveal a few new plot points/ action scenes.

Yeah, pretty spoilerish.

Looks so fun. Can't wait.

Yeah am avoiding the new trailer and clip. Don't want to be spoiled too much.

Is the movie rated R in the cinema this time at least?

“Strong violent content, bloody images, some strong language, sexual material, and brief drug references.”

Seems like they want to have their cake and eat it too by trying very hard to slightly push the boundaries while keeping it PG-13 to attract a wider audience.

I get wanting to maintain their audience from the last film, but if they are pushing the violence and language in this, why not just give it an R-rating? Why are they trying so hard to keep the franchise PG-13 if the first film had an unrated cut released later on with more violence in it anyway? If anything, they’ll probably get a lot of complaints from parents taking their kids to this and having them seeing someone get Mortal Kombat-ed on-screen.

I’m not even trying to be a prudish or anything. From a logistical standpoint, it just doesn’t make sense to me. It seems like more trouble than it’s worth.

It is easier for your target audience to get into a pg 13 movie. 15-17 year olds won't need to be babysat by a parent to see it.

Good. Its rough when horror starts to go over 2 hours, generally.

Just got back from it.

Is it a step down from the first one? Yes. Is the swing in tones and genres practically making this a different movie series? Oh yeah. Are some of the attempts to callbacks to some of the viral moments of the first one kind of painful and stretched too long? Absolutely.

But, it uses the Knight Rider theme in a completely appropriate and fun way, so there is no way I can ever hate this movie.

It is not necessarily a good movie. But dear god, I had fun. Though, uhhh, kind of bad luck with the news in the first segment. Kind of surprised there wasn't a sudden redub within the last week.

For perspective, this is looking to make the same opening weekend as the first one did on it's first Friday. This total is the same as the first movie's third Sat. All time bad marketing:

Universal misread the room on the marketing. The TikTok dancing worked because you were still telling us this was a horror movie. :o

Honestly shocked by those that thought the marketing for this was good. It was so grating and showed what felt like a truly unappealing movie.
