Bohemian Rhapsody

I'd prefer to not see a biopic at all, than to see a glossed over squeaky clean one. The best ones are the most truthful biopics.

That's why I don't normally like to see biopics, especially of rock stars. I find they tend to focus more on hero worship than telling the real story.

From what I could infer, S.B. Cohen wanted to focus on all the debauchery Freddie was involved in & the rest of Queen said no.
Which made me think 2 things : 1) were they trying to protect Freddie? Its not like we don't know what he was involved with.
2) Who gives them the right to just say no?
Its not their life to have total control over. I would think Freddie's estate should have final say.

I think if the film wanted to use any actual Queen music the band had to have signed off first. We know what Freddie had to have been involved with but I guess the band didn't want to see that portrayed?

I know SBC spent the better part of a decade trying to get the film off the ground with himself. I don't know if it was wanting to focus on the debauchery but to not whitewash things.

With the passion he had for the project I could have seen him being nominated for quite a few awards had he done it.

He did seem passionate about it. I am not certain 100% of his focus was on the debauchery lifestyle but I think SBC wanted more of it in the film & possibly more of Freddie in the film which bruised the egos of the rest of the band.

Looks good, but is that an actual still? Something seems very artificial about it.

Don't think it's a still from the film. Rami said he just had makeup and costume tests. Just seems like a promotional pic for the press and trades. Not that it makes it any worse, Rami looks great.

He looks amazing as Freddie.

At first I had doubts, but I am now sold :)

The pic looks good...but also looks so photoshopped that he doesn't seem like an actual person.

I know that he's not an actor...but I still kind of wish that MIKA had been cast in this role.

Queen is my favorite band though, so I'll watch this.

I hope they do a scene of the infamous Saturday Night In Sodom party at The Fairmont in New Orleans.

As they enter the hotel, guests are greeted by a troupe of hermaphrodite dwarves serving cocaine from trays strapped to their heads; the coke has been specially imported from Bolivia and quality-checked by Mercury.

Fortified by “lines of marching powder as long and as thick as your grandmother’s arm”, the guests are free to choose from a menu of exotic diversions. The hotel ballrooms, made up to resemble labyrinthine jungle swamps, are swarming with magicians, Zulu tribesmen, contortionists, fire-eaters, drag queens and transsexual strippers. Drinks are served by naked waiters and waitresses who politely request that any tips are placed not on trays but in bodily crevices. Naked dancers cavort in bamboo cages suspended from ballroom ceilings. Nude models of both sexes wrestle in huge baths of shimmering, uncooked liver, while 300lb Samoan women lounge on banquet tables, smoking cigarettes from various orifices. As a bonus, visitors to the hotel’s grand marble bathrooms are serviced by prostitutes of both sexes.

How much of what went on at the party is true is much disputed but everyone that was there agrees there was some biblical debauchery going on that night. Freddie Mercury was famously shy but he partied like a mad man. Even Elton John at his Cocaine fueled peak said he couldn't hang with Mercury.

Call me crazy, but I think Rami Malek would make a better Prince than Freddie Mercury.

Then again I've only really watched him in Mr. Robot.

Pretty cool pic, but him donning a stache and doing a classic Freddie pose isn't hard to pull off... walking around and talking as Freddie is the true test.

Now could anyone have ever imagined that we'd come full circle with Mike Meyers in talks to possibly appear in a Bohemian Rhapsody film?

In what amounts to his second big-screen association with the Queen tune Bohemian Rhapsody, Mike Myers is negotiating for a role in the Bryan Singer-directed film about the seminal British rock band Queen, with Mr. Robot‘s Rami Malek playing frontman Freddie Mercury. Fox and New Regency are making Bohemian Rhapsody, and with Graham King and his GK Films producing with Tribeca and Queen Films. The shooting script is by The Theory of Everything scribe Anthony McCarten.

Wow! Is that Malek?

If yes, he looks EXACTLY like Freddie :hmr:

I'm more impressed by John Deacon's hair job there.

Fox Halts Production on Queen Biopic Due to Bryan Singer Absence

Fox has halted production on the studio's Queen biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, due to the "unexpected unavailability" of director Bryan Singer.
Rami Malek is starring as the legendary frontman Freddie Mercury in the movie that had been filming in London.

"Twentieth Century Fox Film has temporarily halted production on Bohemian Rhapsody due to the unexpected unavailability of Bryan Singer," reads Fox's full statement.

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Singer had failed to return to set after the Thanksgiving holiday break, leaving producers nervous about the state of the production and talking about potentially replacing him.

In a statement to the BBC, a rep for the director says his absence is due to "a personal health matter concerning Bryan and his family." However, sources says that filming on the biopic has not been easy. For example, insiders tell THR that Singer has repeatedly clashed with his star, Malek.

This is not first time that Singer has disappeared during a production. He also stepped away during the shooting of X-Men: Apocalypse and during Superman Returns.

More to come...

For what it's worth, Singer also did this all throughout XMA, and Simon Kinberg filled in.
