Bohemian Rhapsody

Real talk tho, Bohemian Rhapsody won 4 out of the 5 categories it was nominated for. It probably would have won BP too had it not been for Singer's controversies.

Bale seems like the kind of person that doesn't give a damn about the awards tbh. Happy for Malek, but also sad for Bale.
No need to be sad for Bale, he's already got one. I'm sure Regina King deserved her Oscar but I'm sadder for Amy Adams. She's basically the female Leo at this point.

I want her win to be undeniable and a sweep so I’m ok with her losing this year. I’m more mad at her Sharp Objects snub. She should’ve won for that.

Current WW gross is $861,029,046, and it was just announced that this is getting a China release after all.

Could it hit a billion?

Could it hit a billion?

Right nao chances of BR hitting 1B are slim to none. It's only getting a limited theatrical run in China which means it won't have a substantial number of theaters/screens to make a big dent. It can potentially get a longer BO run by virtue of having a very high PTA tho. We just hafta wait to see how early screenings goes because a good score on Maoyan (it almost always reflects the general audience reception in China) and Douban are important.

Green Book is also releasing in China on March 1 and I feel it'll hurt BR's prospects. Early word on Green Book is through the roof and it has breakout potential. Nothing is set in stone yet since there is no precedent of low-key race related Hollywood drama making it big in China but GB going relatively big will hinder BR's run.

Watched this last night but I dozed off after it so I couldn't post my post thoughts. I have had some time to think about it and nope, I didn't like it then and nothing has changed in the last 10 hours or so.

The first 2 hours are terrible. Malek was awful. I just couldn't get past the problems he was having with the dentures. It was extremely distracting. Then the final 10 minutes happened which were fantastic. Rami absolutely killed it during the live-aid re-enactment. But it still doesn't make me like the movie and I have no desire to see it ever again.

I'll recommend you guys to watch Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping which is a far better movie about a musician. Both movies follow somewhat similar story beats like the front-man seeking a redemption after ditching his bandmates for a solo career but P:NSNS is much better fleshed out and has much better acting and writing (except for the opening act rapper subplot). Also Andy Samberg in P:NSNS >>>>>>>>> Rami Malek in Bohemian Rhapsody.

The director of dozens of classic Queen videos says the band and its management are lining up behind a sequel to the smash hit Freddie Mercury film “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

Rudi Dolezal — who directed videos for the band, and became close with Mercury during his life — told Page Six in an interview about Queen’s legendary manager Jim Beach, “I’m sure he plans a sequel that starts with Live Aid.” Dolezal added that the follow-up film is now “being heavily discussed in the Queen family.”

Beach also produced “Bohemian Rhapsody,” which has made more than $870 million worldwide. The rock biopic won four Oscars last month and was nominated for best picture.

The movie ends with Mercury and the band’s iconic Live Aid performance, which is around the time that Dolezal began working with Queen — beginning with their 1985 song “One Vision.” He ended up doing around 30 videos for the band and its members, ending with Mercury’s final video shoot for “These Are the Days of Our Lives” in 1991, the same year the singer died.

Queen guitar god Brian May has hinted about a sequel to the film, and that there’s more of Mercury’s tale to tell. He quipped in a December interview of the project, “I think Live Aid is a good point to leave it. Who knows, there might be a sequel.”

But while the film’s awards have added buzz that there will a sequel, a pal of star Rami Malek’s told us they hadn’t heard of any talk about a new film. A rep for Queen’s record label told us they have not heard about any sequel, but that “The Show Must Go On: The Queen + Adam Lambert Story” will air on ABC in April.

It took over 20 years for “Bohemian Rhapsody” to get made. The Mercury role was once going to be played by Sacha Baron Cohen. The project was championed by eventual executive producers Jane Rosenthal and Robert De Niro.

Meanwhile, Dolezal told us he’s writing a book, “My Friend, Freddie,” and will release his interviews with Mercury in a film called, “Freddie Mercury: In His Own Words.”

In December 2017, Dexter Fletcher was immersed in planning Rocketman, a musical about Elton John, when Rami Malek called him from the set of Bohemian Rhapsody, where director Bryan Singer had gone AWOL. "Rami was like, 'We ****ing need you, man. We need somebody,' " Fletcher says. " 'If you come to set and **** on the floor, you'll still do a better job than this guy.' "

So rock icon shared universe confirmed?

Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman already have Elton’s manager/lover played by two different actors, Aidan “Littlefinger” Gillen In BR and Richard “King In The North” Madden in Rocketman.

funny coincidence- I rewatched it yesterday. Maybe historically not authentic, but still fun to watch
