Bonds only 4 Home Runs away from Ruth

Double standards.

I think their might be something to Bonds being black.

He above everyone else gets the most crap (albeit he deserves it)

It was Andro, which at the time he used it was a legal substance in baseball. I still think ESPN was idiotic for whining about a substance that violated nothing in baseball.

And it's not cheating when it's legal. It's cheating when it's illegal

he doesnt deseve to even have his name in the same catogory as babe he cheated the record books should say that to

You mean like the "outstanding" job Ford Frick did in 1961, where he gave Roger Maris 61* when he broke the Babe's record for homers in a season?

An asterix attached to the record was a joke then, and it's still a joke. Especially when some of the substances were not tested for originally, nor were on the "list of banned substances".

Again, when the law makes something illegal, you cannot bring up charges against a person who committed that act when it was legal.

I'm sorry but I loathe Bonds. After reading the Sports Illustrated interview, I couldn't help but laugh at how I left the article, which did its best to sympathize, thinking what an *******.

It wasn't until 1935 that steroids were discovered by scientists for their ability to increase testosterone, so this charge has little support in facts.

Does that mean he never looked for some edge, probably not. However to most athletes in his day the only edge available to him was natural ability and good food, as well as adequate sleep.

Please, race card? I think it has to do more with him be an arrogant ******* who is full of himself than skin color.

So he's arrogant because he doesn't like talking to the media? Boo hoo. He plays baseball. When you're standing around yakking to guys from ESPN, Fox Sports, Univision, San Francisco sports stations, and the sports stations from other cities when the Giants are the visiting team, that's not playing baseball.

Nope, his attitude towards his teammates as well, he got into a fight with Jeff Kent, Jeff Kent for gods sake.

Segregated baseball was disgusting and the Negro League players got a raw deal, but a great player like Ruth would have been great no matter who he was playing against. But a lot of big league GMs would have loved to have had Josh Gibson on their team. He hit around .360 in barnstorming games vs major league pitching, IIRC.

Only three players ever hit homers to dead center in the old Polo Grounds, which was over 500 ft-and those three players were Ruth, Gibson and Aaron. That's pretty awesome.

You do know that some people on a team may not like each other.

I laugh when I see dugout fights. And since the Giants aren't my team, I didn't care when the Kent/Bonds fight happened

At the time McGuire used Andro it was not only legal in baseball it was a legal substance period. It has since been outlawed.

It's outlawed NOW. It wasn't outlawed then.

Nothing can be done about McGwire's use of Andro, since he used it when it was PERFECTLY LEGAL

But it's cheating, plain and simple. While steroids do still require muscle use in order to build, you do not have to work out as hard, and you certainly cannot achieve the same results in muscle growth WITHOUT steroids, period. Don't sit here and claim otherwise. There's a reason why people use steroids. It's for the immediate gratification of building mass WITHOUT all of the time-consuming effort and pain.

So much crap in your statement -

a) it's NOT cheating plain and simple. If you're an IFBB pro and EVERYONE has access to it and is using, how is that cheating? If I decide to do a cycle for gain in personal strength after hitting a plateau and I'm not competing, how is that cheating?

It IS cheating for someone to be using in a Natty competition or in sports where performance enhancers are banned.

b) yes YOU DO have to work harder while using, otherwise you'd be an idiot and would be throwing your $$ away.

c)Your statement is totally generalized and false - what you say may apply to the teens and newbie lifters who, as Coleman once said "..want to get big, but don't wanna lift no heavy-assed weights", ie. the ABUSERS..however most responsible users have AT LEAST 5-7 years natty training under their belt and generally resort to using while hitting hard plateaus.

In regards to Bonds, I agree with most folks here that his record definately should have an asterisk. Andro as well most AAS will not affect your performance via focus, i.e. if before using you'd miss 8 out of 10 balls, using won't really change that aspect - HOWEVER, using will change how far you hit the ball because you have the added power from the strength gain attained from using.

And it depends when the use of those substances took place. If it occured when it was legal and not against the rules, tough ****. It was legal.

If it occured when those substances were against the rules, then you can hold them liable.

No...I totally agree with you. I was just pointing out that unlike steroids, which were against US law if not the bylaws of MLB, Andro was a legal substance period when McGuire used it.
