Cyclops without his visor=![]()
How much of a retcon is it, though? The idea that his power problems stemmed from psychological issues and not physical ones have been around for years. It's high time someone actually did something with it. The idea that we should hold back logical character progress because you don't want changes to his physical appearance is just nonsense and part of the reason why practically every X-character is stagnating themselves all to hell right now.
People have been complaining for ages that Cyclops is too boring, and now that he's evolving people are complaining that he's evolving. I mean, come on. We're living the fanboy cliche right here, right now.
Yeah, but do we really want him to keep the control issues? Scott's control issues are the root to his emotional withdrawnness, and it's that same emotional withdrawnness that causes him to occasionally lash out and do something stupid-- like cheat on his wife at the moment, whether it be Jean or Maddy. His control issues are the reason he hasn't been able to maintain a steady relationship.KingOfDreams said:As long as he doesn't take the visor off while in costume I'm fine. Well, actually maybe not. A defining factor of Cyclops' character is his control issues (apart from his powers) and if he can control his powers, he doesn't really have them anymore does he? I'm okay with change but not okay with bad change. Granted, I haven't read the issue yet so this is all based on heresay and speculation.

Langoth, you actually couldn't be more incorrect. More than eighty percent of all brain damage patients that become rehabilitated, fully or otherwise, are brought to that state through psychological means - NOT through the efforts of a surgeon.
The human mind is complex to the point that after centuries of studying it, we know next to nothing about it. The fact remains that the majority of "physical" damages to the brain can be "healed" by psychological means; in fact, when doctors use the term "brain damage" at all, it's generally not that portions of the brain are missing. On the contrary, it's to describe that the brain has been traumatized and that valuable synapses and nodes are not operating as they should.

If Scott could learn to move past that and better himself as a person, he might slowly turn into something other than a stick-up-butted, emotionally crippled timebomb. I'm not saying he should start acting like Iceman, but Cyclops needs to learn to "let go" every once in a while. It's not going to change his leadership skills; the man is still a good strategist and current head of the school. I just want Cyclops' character to progress and stop being so damn stagnant. I mean, name one negative effect of Cyclops moving past his control issues aside from the fact that you're accustomed to them.
If it is a retcon, then it's not one that Whedon thought up. The idea that his condition is completely psychological was a hint that was dropped way back in the 90s. Same for Rogue.Langoth said:Well Brianwilly, I didn't complain.
And Brian, its not psychological, its physical, you know, BRAIN ****ING DAMAGE. Thats a RETCON, you know, those things where authors go back, and either ignore, or rewrite something, and conviently cover it up, hoping no one notices.
Cyclops needs a surgeon, not a telepath, to fix his powers. Because he has ****ing BRAIN DAMAGE, which shows your understand of this "BORING" character.
