DC Comics

Booster Gold #19 $2.99 - not sure whether I'll stick with this past this arc.
Green Lantern #39 (Origins) $2.99 - jeez, it feels like we've been building to "Blackest Night" forever now.
Northlanders #16 (MR) $2.99 - switching to trades after this issue.
Secret Six #8 $2.99 - I was contemplating dropping this, but Artemis is showing up next arc, so I'm still in.

Marvel Comics

All New Savage She-Hulk #1 (OF 4) DKR $3.99 - maybe; great creative team, no particular attachment to the premise.
Captain Britain and MI 13 #12 $2.99 - should be great as always.

More DC than Marvel; that hasn't happened in months.

I laughed at this at first because I thought it was an over exaggeration joke, but then I realized how accurate it actually was :(

BOOSTER GOLD #19
CAPTAIN BRITAIN AND MI-13 #12
WAR OF KINGS: ASCENSION #1

Small week. There is a part of me debating trying out WOLVERINE: WEAPON X #1. It's written by Jason Aaron, who has done good work on GHOST RIDER and who has written some Wolverine stories for the last year or so here and there that I heard didn't stink, and Garney on art is always solid. Since WOLVERINE is officially becoming Daken's book as "DARK WOLVERINE" after Millar's run is finished, this will likely be the default Wolverine title. To be honest, I likely would have been more willing to try it out for $3, not $4. Granted, it has in it's favor that this is a very small week.

I am glad to see AGENTS OF ATLAS getting more printings, which will add to the total sales of the first two issues. Means it is doing well, or at least decently. According to ICV2, AGENTS OF ATLAS #1 in Feb. 2009 sold at #59 of the Top 60 at just over 30,200 copies. Even for a "down" month (overall comic sales were down 2%, and likely would have been down more without those Obama reprints of ASM selling another 150k), that's not the strongest debut. Hopefully the drop-off won't stink. Granted, a reprint of issue #2 will soften that a bit. I don't recall how well AGENTS OF ATLAS #1 sold as the debut of a mini back in 2005 or so, but I don't think the DARK REIGN tagger is helping it in sales; I mean even that random Claremont one-shot, X-MEN VS. HULK #1, outsold it.

I also hope more people start buying CAPTAIN BRITAIN AND MI-13 #12. It actually gained some readers in Feb. 2009, a good 9-10% jump. Hopefully it wasn't a fluke. Recall that this title, along with IMMORTAL IRON FIST, was rumored to be on the cancellation radar via "leaked Marvel internet mistakes".

Exiles almost made it to a maybe, but it's $4. Way to go Marvel, you lost that sale. Same may go for Hawkeye and 2099. This is a light week but I've decided to not buy any one-shots or minis due to the price increase unless they're important for what I read regularly. Hawkeye is almost definatley a no, but 2099 still has a shot since I'm a big 2099 fan. I'll skim through it.

I'll get Battle for the Cowl since this is a small week and I've already bought the 1st issue. I'm excited to meet the Orange Lantern in Green Lantern and while MI:13 is on my almost cut list, this new story has been decent. War of Kings: Ascension however... Yay!

Really slow week, in fact I'm not even sure about two of the titles:

BATMAN BATTLE FOR THE COWL #2 (OF 3) $3.99-Liked the first issue, so sticking with this one.

BOOSTER GOLD #19 $2.99-Thinking of starting this title, as the couple of back issues I picked up for a buck were great.

DAREDEVIL NOIR #1 (OF 4) $3.99- May give this a try. Love premise, but pricey.

MARVEL COMICS
ALL NEW SAVAGE SHE-HULK #1 (OF 4) DKR $3.99 - only reason I'm interested in this at all is because of Van Lente
DAREDEVIL NOIR #1 (OF 4) $3.99
DARK REIGN HAWKEYE #1 (OF 5) DKR $3.99
ULTIMATE WOLVERINE VS HULK #4 (OF 6) $2.99
WAR OF KINGS ASCENSION #1 (OF 4) $3.99
WOLVERINE WEAPON X #1 $3.99 - Aaron + Garney + Wolverine = win

Not to judge, just curious, especially as my own taste can be weird, but if the Dracula arc on CB&MI13 is something you consider "decent", then what sort of story would you consider good or great? Or is it just semantics? Anyway, that book needs all the help it can get, and is still $3.

As for ASCENSION, I have faith in Abnett & Lanning, but hope they manage to handle the Darkhawk retcon well without having it clash badly with his established origin, and can make including him in WOK seem organic. Because so far it seems very forced.

It's wierd really. I like the book, but when I think of the books that I look forward to each month, this isn't really one. I read each issue, I enjoy them, then I forget about them. Come the next issue I typically don't remember the previous one and have to refresh myself with it. Just something about it doesn't stick with me. It did during the first arc. The second arc just bored me to tears. This one is somewhere in between. If I had all the money I needed to buy what comics I wanted this would definately be a keeper, but sadly, I spend around $40 more a month than I can really afford so I have to pick stuff to drop. I've dropped quite a bit but I'm still on the line of what I can afford. I find that everything else I read I enjoy more than this title save maybe The End League. Those are the 2 titles, along with Thunderbolts and Deadpool I'm on the fence about. I WANT to keep reading them, but financially I may have to drop them.

As far as what I consider Great!? Anything that sticks with me days after I read it (Nova, Iron Fist). Anything emotional. Anything that really makes me laugh. Anything completely differant (Echo, Umbrella Academy). Anything that happens that really defines the industry. For me, MI:13 is just barely missing that mark. I'm still tweeking my read-list though and I'm iffy on some Avenger/X-Men stuff, so we'll see if MI:13 sticks around on my list. I'm at least sticking with it through the Dracula storyline.

As for ASCENSION, I have faith in Abnett & Lanning, but hope they manage to handle the Darkhawk retcon well without having it clash badly with his established origin, and can make including him in WOK seem organic. Because so far it seems very forced.

I think they'll do fine. As long as they keep in mind the body switching and not armor covering Chris thing... sadly, I'm guessing they'll overlook that part.

I'm still sad they haven't brought Death's Head II in though :(

GREEN LANTERN #39 (ORIGINS) $2.99
TITANS #12 $2.99

WAR OF KINGS ASCENSION #1 (OF 4) $3.99(wtf is this?)

War of Kings Ascension is a companion mini with War of Kings focusing on Darkhawk's role, extending from his 2 issue lead in that just finished last Wednesday.
