Figured I'd get the ball rolling on this. I hit all 3 comic shops in my city and picked up practically everything, including a few kids' comics for my friend (she's a children's librarian). I haven't actually read any of my comics yet, but I did want to relate some fun stuff at my main shop for FCBD: They had a chick dressed up as Loki's female form and a dude dressed up as the Hood holding a sign advertising FCBD on the street corner. Must've sucked for them because it was like 90 degrees, but the fact that they were there was awesome. :D

The artist for Tiny Titans was at one of my local comic book shops in Canandaigua :p

Also, I really enjoyed War of the Supermen #0. I think this year, DC has once again had the better offering than Marvel for FCBD. Though I do wish that like Marvel offered both Iron Man/Thor and Iron Man/Nova, DC should have had a Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne #0 as well.

The local shop here pissed me off. Only allowing people a choice of 3. So, I missed out on Gi:joe and the MARVEL books, and they didn't even bother ordering any Atomic Robo or the reprint of The Tick #1.

My main shop had a 5-comic limit and I didn't get Iron Man/Nova. I called the owner back later and asked if he could put a copy in my pull box if he had any left and he was like, "Oh, I'll just get one now. The 5-comic limit is really only for people who show up this one time to get a ton of free stuff and then never come back." So I'll get that next Wednesday.

My secondary comic store didn't have a limit. But I just stuck with War of the Supermen #0, Tiny Titans #1 (just to check it out because the scans of the series always made me laugh), Iron Man/Thor, and Iron Man/Nova.

They also had a sale of 50% off of all back issues. My attempt to collect almost every Deadpool appearance got a nice boost today.

I was only allowed of a choice of 2. :csad:

Has anyone read the Thor/Iron Man issue?

Mine had a buy 2 get 1 free sale on trades/hardcovers. I picked up Age of Bronze vol. 2, Can't Get No, and The Life and Times of Savior 28. Then I got Cairo from another shop because I got a ton of FCBD stuff from them and I would've felt bad just leaving without actually buying anything.

I just did. Pretty good. Still a bit irritating to see Thor rendered completely powerless because of human tech, but overall it was a nice adventure with Thor and Iron Man.

Age of Bronze is brilliant:up:

Just too slow. I'll be 50 before it finishes it's 7-part run:csad:

my store had a 2 comic limit as well. That's why I dragged my wife along with me to at least get 4 :woot:

Picked up war of the supermen, Thor/iron man, Dr Solar (the art is fantastic), and Top Cow's Artifacts

One of the advantages of going to small town, non-chain store is there's no need for limits. He even has a couple of books from 3-4 years back that got left behind. So, I basically got everything that I had any interest in that he ordered (he skipped some stuff since he knew people wouldn't touch it around here, free or otherwise). Haven't got a chance to read any of it, though.

Was planning to pick up the first trade of Irredeemable since he has an annual sale for trades for FCBD, but apparently it got sold before I got there. Though there was aa Irredeemable/Incorruptible double preview for FCBD, so that was pretty neat. I picked up something else instead.

Overall, good haul. I think this year's was a lot better than I remember last year being title-wise

Picked up Thor, Wizard of Oz, Green Lantern, Green Hornet, Iron Man vs. Thor, and Irredeemable. Solid day.

I just read the Atomic Robo FCBD issue. Hilarious, as usual. Giant birds and insect paranoia and nesting FTW. :D :D :D

I didn't even see one for Wizard of Oz. Was it something new or a reprint?

The guy who owns my local shop refuses to participate. He thinks it's too much of a cluster**** and that the surrounding area's culture wouldn't support it.

Assuming everything pans out, I've offered to organize and run it next year alongside Tim Callahan.

I've never even seen a FCBD book in the flesh.

Yeah, my shop owner expressed similarly feelings in the past. He said he actually had doubts about continuing it a few years back, but he said that it ended up perking up the years later so kept with it. I'm glad, too, because I really like FCBD

It was a $1 comic, a reprint of Eric Shanower's first issue.

I'm picking it up in trade anyway, so I didn't get it. But I did pick up Age of Bronze #1. I already have that in trade but figure I could get someone on the series too since it's awesome.

I picked War of Supermen, two Iron Man/Thors (figure I could give the other to someone else) and the Irredeemable/Incorruptible one. It took me like 20 minutes to get through my shop cuz of how many people were there, so I didn't bother looking at all the stuff even though I'm sure I would have enjoyed some other stuff. Oh well.

Are there a lot of chain stores when it comes to comics in the first place? The only one I can think of going to is the Jay & Silent Bob's Secret Stash, and even then I think there's only like 2 of them.

The owner of my shop put a few tables just outside the shop's doors with all the FCBD stuff. Pretty smart. The inside of the shop wasn't bad at all.

That was a good idea. Mine was the worst. Comic shops are cramped as it is, but I had to wait in a line all the way around the shop (with the back-issue bins in the middle as a divider) just to get my regular pull. On the bright side the guy doubled my regular discount:up:

I just finished most of my FCBD books. The Irredeemable book has convinced me to start picking up that series in trade. The Iron Man/Thor book was pretty good, gives me a little faith in Fraction's ability to write Thor and JRjr's artwork for Iron Man looked better than it usually does.

Irredeemable is fantastic. Pick up Incorruptible, too.

I looked up what trades were out and Irredeemable has three out with the fourth on the way and the first Incorruptible trade is just going to be coming out soon. Should I read through what there is of Irredeemable first or does it not really matter?

Great idea for a thread, Corp! Love to hear everyone's experiences at their shop(s).

I ended up going to three shops, with my lcs being the last. (Last year, my lcs only allowed one comic PER FAMILY!) Anyway, I left my house about 8:30 AM to head to Tacoma, since a shop I like to visit there opened at 10:00 AM. It takes about an hour to drive there, and we got in line about 30 minutes early...and, there was already a line around the small strip mall. He gets mega business because of this event, and he does a great job, having 3 Stormtroopers and a Darth Vader on hand. Also there was Batman, Joker (Heath version) and Scarecrow. Also, he handed out stuff for free as you waited in line, which included 6 of the dollar comics that DC and Marvel are selling lately and the 70th Anniversary Magazine that came out last year.

I brought alone my mother and my daughter. (Son was doing a school clean-up the neighborhood program; so, I didn't have him this year.) That first shop allowed 5 comics per person...so, I missed out on some stuff I wanted.

Driving to get some lunch, we saw a sign for 50% off Scholastic Books, and my daughter got a ton of books that are available for order in the schools. (If you have kids, you know the forms I'm talking about.) Oh, and my daughter bought a Hong Kong Fooey action toy at that previous comic shop.

We ate at Ruby Tuesdays, and I thought, "Hmmm...wonder if there is another comic shop in the area." Using my phone, I located one about 5 miles away...and, that was a good move on my part. All three of us were allowed to get all the comics they had available...which was a lot. (Plus, they made the line of comics age appropriate; so,my daughter didn't get some adult ones that looked like they'd be for kids. This shop also had a great sale. Any back issue 5 bucks or under was only $1.00. And, anything higher was 50% off. Besides my free comics, I walked out with a small box of comics.

Ok, here are the free comics I got:

G.I. Joe, Artifacts/Magdalena, Doctor Solar/Magnus Robot Fighter, Radical: Welcome To R Universe, War Of The Supermen, Green Hornet, Iron Man/THor, Iron Man/Nova, Sonic The Hedgehog, Bongo Comics, DC Kids, Toy Story, Shrek/Penguins Of Madagascar, The Tick, Mouse Guard/Fraggle Rock, Yow!, Owly and Friends, Archie's Summer Special, The Sixth Gun, World Of Aspen 2010, Fame: Lady Gaga, Classic Comic Strip: Action and Adventure/Blondie, Oni Press Free For All, Overstreet Guide To Collecting Comics, Love And Capes, The Stuff Of Legend/City Of Bones, Atomic Robo, Weathercraft and Other Unusual Tales, Irredeemable/Incorruptible, Storm Lion, Del Rey Showcase, Fearless Dawn, and Fractured Fables.

Oh, and I finished off at my lcs, and they let me take any I wanted...but, they did not have the variety that the second shop had. Excellent day full of great bargains! It was worth the 40 minute drive, for sure.

I can't believe some comic shops don't participate in this event. All the shops I went into seemed to have there best sale day ever. But, they also do some good promotions, especially Tacoma.
