Box Office 2005

it must be me then ...
Actually, general DVD sales went up, but individual titles didn´t sell as high as expected. There´s a lot of competition between old and new movies, TV show collections, etc.

i think the studio's had HUGE expectations and while they still went to #1 they didnt sell as well

War of the Worlds didn't suck. It was very interesting and had awesome sfx. The problem was the rushed ending where this one little town didn't get destroyed and somehow the whole family was safe.

WOTW had some awesome effects, but it also had ridiculously redundant action scenes that wore thin after the first time, one laughably convenient escape after another for the main characters, and worst of all, horrid main characters that were so freaking irritating that I was rooting for aliens...plus the lame, anti-climactic as hell ending.

It's a terrible film, easily one of the worst of the year.

Now that 05 is done, I guess that's the final numbers

The list isn't about how much money movies makes in 2005, it's how much money 2005 releases makes in total, so these are far from final numbers since a few movies are still making money

IMDB had 2 polls recently best and worst of 2005.

There was a best of 2005 top 10 grossing poll on IMDB with Batman Begins and Sith as #1 and #2.

The worst of 2005 top 10 grossing poll on IMDB was War of the Worlds and Hitch.

IMDB users have such a hatred towards Tom Cruise, case and point War of the Worlds being anywhere near the top of a "Worst Of" list! I can seeing people saying they had problems with the ending but to say it was one of the worst movies of there year when there were movies like Stealth released is ridiculous!

Apart from the lame ending I thought WotW was a lot more enjoyable than Star Wars

Both those polls were just for the top 10 grossing movies of last year.

do you have a direct link to the polls?

Hitch wasnt that bad, WOTW ws better than ROTS

I didn't see Hitch or Madagascar but out of those 8 I did enjoy WOTW least.

Hitch definately wasn't bad!

Here's how I would rate the top 10 worst to best, I would say 7 outta 10 are pretty good movies and the others while not personally my taste are still far from bad.

Madagascar
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
Hitch
Mr. & Mrs. Smith
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Batman Begins
War of the Worlds
Wedding Crashers

people just like to B**CH about guys like Smith and Cruise but they hardly ever make a bad movie ... for the last couple of years anyway

I like a lot of Smith movies. I enjoyed I Robot. I didn't necessarily dislike WOTW but I just enjoy it as much as the others. Although I'm not a Cruise fan at all.

On one hand though, if you don't respect the actor it's kinda hard to get into their movies for some people.

IRobot was great, Sonny doesnt get the credit it should. You right that its hard to like a film by someone you hate
