Brad Pitt has been lined up to replace Tom Cruise in the next "Mission Impossible" film in a move that will make Pitt the highest-paid actor in Hollywood history.

An insider told This Is London that: "MI:IV will not include Cruise's character, agent Ethan Hunt. They're considering a brief mention, saying Hunt retired to live a safe life with his new wife. They're set on Brad taking over as a gutsy new head operative who puts together his own unique team of specialists."

Paramount Pictures, the company behind the franchise, ended their long-running partnership with Cruise the other month, whilst a few months earlier negotiated a deal to produce projects with Pitt's Plan B production company. No doubt this report is speculation due to those circumstances, nevertheless as speculation goes this is one of the few that doesn't sound too bad.

Already posted. That and I could care less about MI movies.

This is quite possibly one of the stupidest things I've ever heard.

As crazy as Cruise might be now in days, he IS Mission: Impossible, and it's ridiculous to continue this without him. They should just end the goddamn series already.

smells like bull$hit. The masses weren't clammoring for an M:I2, even fewer were for an M:I:3. They aren't going to replace Cruise with someone who sure as hell has better options than replacing Tom Cruise for the 4th installment of a lame franchise.

anybody else find it funny tht pitt is replacing cruise, and the name of his company is Plan B?
anyway, yeah, bad move. there is no mission impossible without cruise

I think it would be cool. Pitt plays a better spy that cruise anywas.

I dont particularly care for this idea, but I wouldnt be at all surprised to see profits actually go up with Pitt as the star. He's a proven box office draw, so it's not totally out of the question.

I hope not, brad pitt looks like a monkey.
Well I'll gladly borrow his 'monkey' looks for a few weeks of bedding angelina Jolie plus any other girl that I feel like hooking up with. Very few men on earth have that privilage.

I like the Mission Impossible movies, I think Brad would be a good agent.

I was under the impression the Cruiser owns the rights to Mission Impossible.

This is such a stupid story. Nonsense. Cruise takes a hit so simple(ton) logic says Brad Pitt will take over his big franchise. That's just dopey.

it will never happen
but would be kool to see if pitt is a better mi agent than cruise

This seems strange. I don't know if Pitt would want to step on Cruise's toes so publicly.

To answer something said earlier on,ppl were clamouring for an MI-2 that's why it made a lot more than MI-1

Let them pretend they have a Bond in the making and fall flat on their faces...

Brad Pitt would be more enjoyable to watch than Tom Cruise, but this is definitely very odd news indeed.

Wait a minute, is that why Pitt dyed his hair brown?

Brad Pitt stars as Brad Pitt in the new action-packed movie "Mission Impossible: But Not For Brad Pitt."

Despite Cruise's being an oddball, Tom Cruise makes Mission Impossible a...Mission Impossible movie. It's like having Batman and Robin in a movie and only having Robin in it :o

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE was an entity long before Tom Cruise ever decided to make a movie with it. I don't think the film series is entirely Cruise-dependent.

I'm not sure which surprised me more, the fact that they're making a 4th or that Pitt is going to be in it.
I haven't seen the last 2. :O

I think three is enough... unless J.J. does this one.
