Brave and the Bold Casting Thread

If this really is Muschietti’s gig and if he made Keaton’s return work as well as everyone is saying, I wouldn’t be opposed to an older Batman in the DCU. Not Keaton’s age, of course. We can’t count on him still being this spry by the time he’s approaching 80. But I think it’s necessary to create a stark contrast to Pattinson’s take.

Honestly? I’m gonna go ahead and relapse back into my frame of mind when we first started thinking about a new actor post-Affleck.

It’s Theroux for me.

Assuming this is Muschietti's gig I kinda have a feeling casting will end up more on James Gunn's hands when it comes to Batman since I very much doubt Muschietti would object to whoever Gunn wants.

I mean, it's possible that Batman shows up in Superman: Legacy so Gunn would be casting him anyway.

This is sort of what I'm hoping for--I don't want Batman to necessarily be a supporting character, but it'd be great to see him alongside the new Superman as soon as possible.

Ideally not in just a post-credit either. Maybe Superman seeks Bruce/Batman's help or counsel in the Batcave.

Theroux's work on The Leftovers is one of my favorite performances of the last 20 years, but I just don't see him headlining a big movie ever lol. Maybe another cameo like the one he had in Joker

Probably too distracting as a choice, but

If Batman or even Bruce Wayne show up I will literally lose my mind! So hoping there’s a World’s Finest movie somewhere down the line. Preferably one withOUT the two heroes beating the living **** out of each other! A little antagonistic? Sure. But I’d rather see them build a friendship. Not unlike what Byrne established in his Man of Steel series.

I need thicc Lee Pace... For science.

Gunn does have strong preference to people he's worked with before so there's hope.

My over-40 pick:

My under-40 pick:

Yeah I was also thinking that Oliver Jackson Cohen feels fairly realistic as well (though I don't think he's as good a choice as Pace, but on the under 40 list he does feel like the most plausible and admittedly maybe the best one) although my only caveat is that I somehow feel he's another one that may be too close in wavelength to Pattinson? There's a very particular type of intensity he has that I somehow feel would make his portrayal of Batman inevitably too close to Robert's, though I could be wrong on that.

Also I have a thing where in some of his images I really really like his look for Bruce... and in others I very very much don't lmao If they for some reason /have/ to go under 40 I really can't come up with anyone better to be quite honest though.

I have the strangest feeling that Theo James will be among those considered for the part. He just seems like the type of actor they'd want to screen-test.

The agree he’d probably be on the list, but I’d like to think he wouldn’t get it, because he’s not a good actor at all imo.

I thought he was okay on White Lotus, but yeah, I wouldn't really want him to play Batman. He's a little too bland for my tastes.

NGL, though, Flick. I have a bad feeling that Gunn might get this one wrong. lol

I feel ya on that one lol.

For what it's worth, though, I feel much more optimistic about Corenswet and Brosnahan getting cast as Supes and Lois, respectively. So much of my overall enthusiasm for this new DCU is riding on Gunn getting that right because it feels like such a no-brainer. If he doesn't, it'll be really hard for me to have faith in anything else he does, Batman's casting included.

I will say that seeing his filmography I don't think Gunn has ever made a bad casting choice. The worst you can argue for him is Steve Agee and Jennifer Holland but those are outliers because they were essentially his nepotism hires lol

Even Will Poulter as Adam Warlock made a lot more sense seeing his performance and also taking into account he probably always imagined he'd end up changing that character a lot from its initial conception, like he does with all the lesser-known characters.

He's gone on the record that Batman and Superman characters are more well-defined he doesn't see much need in changing them up that much.

The only thing that'll make me worried is if he screws up the Superman casting by choosing Nic Hoult or Tom Brittney over Corenswet. Then I'll be worried he'll get Batman completely wrong lol

Theo James only gets to be Batman because Armie Hammer fell off that roof a few years back

I don't care if she's featured in this film or not, but I need Natalia Tena as Catwoman at some point.

Not a fair comparison, because Theo James is actually hot and Armie Hammer is just tall and blonde. :o

While Theo James wouldn't be my first choice (or second, third—you get the idea lol), I suppose I could tolerate him were he to bring his A-game to the role. I mean, Affleck is by no means a great actor, but he still managed to win me over and become my favorite live-action Batman next to Pattinson's version. Snyder's unconventional approach, for better or worse, gave Ben a way into that character. And his physical appearance did the rest. Now, I haven't seen a lot of films with James (he was okay on The White Lotus and similarly serviceable on that other time travel show with Ygritte), but who knows? Like Ben, he might be the type of actor who performs well/better with the right material or direction. And, as mentioned before, he does have a certain Aparo-esque quality about him.

Having said that, I still think we can do better this time around. Just trying to think of actors who stand the best chance of making the inevitable shortlist is all.
