Brave and the Bold Casting Thread

giphy.gif

Lee Pace would be fantastic but part of me worries that the age gap between him and Corenswet would be too obvious. Like I'm sure it'd be fine and I'm probably just overthinking it, but it still feels a little weird to imagine Batman being a decade and a half older.

But since Gunn's talked about the Bat-Family and I assume at least Dick/Jason have probably already been Robins, it's tough to find someone closer to Corenswet's age who could be believable as a father-figure to someone in their early to mid 20s. Ethan Peck feels he'd have that presence. Same with Jonathan Bailey, since I think he could pass as older than he actually is. Oliver Jackson-Cohen would be fine but a little boring.

Even if he had I strongly believe odds are he'd have lost to Corenswet anyway.

I mean... 'cuz he wasn't actually cast in the role and casting hadn't even started? That was the rumor.

He's Skeletor in Killers of the Flower Moon.

Louis Cancelmi????
Important to note I think that about 76% of the names on that list I don't think have any actual chance at getting the part lol It's mostly a list to compile every single name possible in the age ranges to have a full picture of the actors we're dealing with.

These are the ones that I think could get it:

Out of these the contenders I'm a fan of are (in this order):
1. Lee Pace
2. Jake Gyllenhaal
3. Josh Hartnett
4. Tom Pelphrey
5. Jonathan Bailey
6. Matt Bomer

I'm open to Luke Evans, Oliver Jackson Cohen, Benjamin Walker, Michiel Huisman Christopher Abbott, and Ethan Peck tho his look soured on me a bit after seeing that one short where he plays a businessman type of figure and it felt more off than I expected.
The rest I'm indifferent to or dislike.

I think it'd work fine as long as they don't make a big deal of it in the script and they both have chemistry; the latter of which I'm pretty certain they'd have. There's something about their acting styles that strikes me as very similar to one another.

I've always imagined Batman and Superman being about 5-10 years apart, with Batman already being active. Almost an urban legend.

So if DCU Superman is 30 (in line with Corenswet's age), then I figure Batman would be about 35 to maybe 40-ish.

Gimme either Alan Ruck or Bruce Greenwood as a classic, older Commissioner Gordon…

Christopher Abbott could be good. He's good actor, has been in enough big projects without yet being a big name himself and seems right on the cusp of becoming a leading man with Leigh Whannell's Wolfman movie. He looks the part, is a decent age, and feels believable as a patriarch.

Greenwood as an older Gordon would be fun too. It'd be a nice bit of meta casting too seeing how often he's voice Bruce.

Peter Dinklage should be Gordon. Unironically. I think he has the perfect energy.

Moviehole: What are your goals for the future?
EP: I have a lot of aspirations — one of the loftier ones is to play Batman, like in five to ten years.

Funny how he still has 2 years left to fulfill his aspiration after his dreams probably seemed crushed to him after Pattinson's casting.

Lee Pace for batman. TV actors generally are cheaper than movie actors like Gyllenhaal or Cooper(who would command 10-15 millions per film). First film would only be max $1M for Pace.

This is an approximation of how he would fit the mask. Also his profile has risen exponentially with the excellent Foundation second season. Also below, a Bruce Wayne interpretation. Got the right balance of darkness which is necessary for the role of Batman and Bruce Wayne, similar to Christian Bale who had the darkness from American Psycho.

Re Age- he is 46, but he is a father to a 13 year old in Damian Wayne, so it has to be believable. He had a romance with Talia Al Ghul in his early 30s. Remember Batman started training with the league of shadows in his mid 20s once he studied in college and stuff.

Also physically hes a match. Hes naturally brown haired and has the dark tones. Also importantly, the height .He is 6,4 which is necessary to play Batman. Batman is very tall in the comics. Also he wont look short with Corenswet who is also 6,4.

The Age gap isnt so relevant, Kryptonians age slowly, so the 15 year age gap isnt that important. Corenswets superman could easily be 5-6 years older in human terms.

Generally fathers of teenagers are in their 40s.

Not that I want to interrupt the Pace talk since I still think he's the absolute best candidate for the role and they should absolutely cast him, but I just checked back on one of the candidates that was previously mentioned, Brandon Sklennar, and he's really really good.

He's got a mature leading man type of persona to him that's extremely compelling to watch and that's very naturally appealing, the sort that Harrison Ford and Russell Crowe in their primes used to have and that you barely ever see on leading men anymore.
I checked some of his other work on a movie called The Big Ugly where he plays a sociopath, on Westworld where he has a small scene playing a businessman type of figure in a date, and on Mapplethorpe and while small roles, he handles each one of them with ease and showcase he does have a ridiculous amount of range. I can 100% see this guy being a star in the future if his management does well by him and takes the right opportunities.

He's 31, but he somehow feels older and you could 100% buy him as the patriarch and as this larger than life mentor figure just based on his acting alone, how he reads his lines, his general presence, etc.

Only downside to him is his look.

He looks a lot better with a beard or a moustache and I don't know, I'm not fully fold on his look for Bruce, it'd have to be screentested. But I do think he has a bright future ahead of him, and if not Batman, there are probably a bunch of characters he'd do a great job with, DC and otherwise.

Too young for this role. Younger than Pattinson who is already playing 'Young Batman.' That guy does remind me of Bale circa 2005.

Lee Pace would definitely be great in the role. He'd be a very creepy, intimidating Batman. With his 6'5 height, and vampire-like stature. And low voice. Very Christopher Lee... which is what inspired the 70s-era Batman.

Batman has always been played by movie stars. Actors who have been leading men, or have the potential to be that; Keaton, Kilmer, Clooney, Bale, Affleck, Pattinson, all starred as the leads in previous films before landing Batman. Pace has the equivalent of that. High-budgeted streaming series have become the equivalent of films today, and he has starred in several.

The only thing going against him is whether Zaslav would want a gay actor portraying Batman. Matt Bomer and others mentioned that they had to stay in the closet years ago because otherwise they'd lose out on roles like this.

Oh don't get me wrong, I absolutely think they should go 40+ for this, but if they wanna get a finalist in their 30s they sure as hell could do a lot worse than him. He's younger than Pattinson but reads as older, which is kinda needed.

I agree Lee would be perfect and the best possible choice for the role. He fits it on so many different levels and would be absolutely amazing for something like the DCU especially with the concept they're going with. He naturally feels extremely larger than life (not just because of his height) in a way that I think it's extremely ideal for a more fantastical take on Batman that's presumably gonna take a page out of Morrison's "peak human" motif. He can also fit his way into a variety of different tones which once again I think something like the DCU requires him to. I can also easily imagine him as a mentor and a father that carries all the complexity that Batman's relationship with his sons has.

The only thing going against him is whether Zaslav would want a gay actor portraying Batman. Matt Bomer and others mentioned that they had to stay in the closet years ago because otherwise they'd lose out on roles like this.
I tend to think Gunn wouldn't care about that and that he'd fght very very hard to get the Batman actor he wants, regardless of sexuality. And he does have more than enough leverage to get his way on a decision like this, even against Zaslav.

Plus, I don't know, you'd hope that we've come very far since then. I mean Zaslav did greenlit The Authority which is gonna have 2 prominent gay characters, and he did try to hype up The Flash despite that having not only a LGBTQ lead but an extraordinarily toxic one. And there haven't been really any particular reports that he has problems with LGBTQ people, for all his faults.

It's insane to me that Pattinson is close to 40. Could easily pass as a decade younger (which is pretty much exactly what they wanted with his version of Bruce). Funny how possible it is that we might end up with an actor younger than him playing a much older Batman.

Pattinson came off as a kid in his 20s, in "The Batman." But a lot of that came down to his hairstyle, chosen voice, slim build and the way he was written.

Pattinson is one of those chameleon actors who could potentially transform into a role. Not as drastic as Christian Bale though.

Has that actually been greenlit by Zaslav? I thought Gunn just shared a tentative slate. Authority probably hinges on how Superman: Legacy does at the box office.

It is a different scenario casting a gay actor as Batman. Batman is WB's #1. They have to market this Batman to all the kids. I would hope it wouldn't matter about Pace being gay, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's a potential PR problem for Zazzy that he would prefer to avoid.

Yes, I think it's safe to say that everything on the slate was greenlit was Zaslav. Gunn had to meet with Zaslav and the entire of WBD's executives to approve his slate before it got announced. It'd be really pointless to have those projects announced and then cancelled because it turns out he had second thoughts. Also, there was nothing "tentative" about the way the slate was announced. It was blasted all over WBD's social media feeds, they coordinated a whole meeting with the press, and in all of that it was described not as "here's what DC Studios might do", but rather "Here's what we're gonna do". All of that had to be approved by Zaslav and many many teams at WBD.
Things can change. They always do. But it's safe to say that right now they're committed to doing all the projects in the revealed slate, otherwise they wouldn't have announced them the way they did. And even if one of these were to fall apart it'd most likely be because of problems with the script, director or whatever, rather than axing a film because it has two prominent gay characters that he already knew were there when he gave the approval for it to be announced.

What does having a gay actor have to do in regards to whether or not you can market to kids? Kids won't know about Lee, they'll know about Batman. And maybe there'll be some dumb weariness, but again, I really really doubt that Gunn doesn't have the leverage to get his way on something like this if it's even a problem, which we don't know if it even would be and have no real reason to think it would right now.
