Brave and the Bold Casting Thread

I'm truly not getting "discount Pattinson" from Peck at all, despite the fact that they're similar in age and height (I haven't looked at their physiques that closely, but Peck seems to be more barrel-chested, IMO). I'm also not concerned that they'll look too similar under the cowl because their lip formations are so different.

In any case, if you're right and Gunn doesn't mind if an actor under consideration for a role looks like their would-be predecessor in the part, it's a moot point. By the time he gets started with the DCU Batman, Reeves' take on the character will most likely be nearing completion.

Side note: Pace is great and all, but he almost feels like a dream choice. We've gotta have backups, man!
The "discount Pattinson" thing is really not my biggest issue with him at all. In fact it'd probably not even be an issue for me if he was truly undeniable as an actor or had something to bring to the part that I felt no other actor could bring. It's just... he doesn't have that for me in what I've seen of him lol I'm willing to change my mind but his range seems so excessively limited as an actor; that's not to say he's bad just that he doesn't have that extra "umph" that makes me feel him as someone exciting for the part beyond his superficial characteristics (he has a great voice and his look is good) and so when those are like, his primary if not his only appeal, trivial stuff like that does end up being more noticeable to me.

OJC feels very discount Pattinson to me as well because of his acting though, so there's that.

Funny enough I just found another Bruce panel that looks like Ethan Peck in "Birth of the Demon".

Well I mean you're going to find a lot of Bruce Wayne art that looks like someone related to Gregory Peck.

I don't think he actually looks much like his grandfather at all.
Yeah, Ethan has a wider jaw than his grandfather, and his nose is also quite different. I suppose if you look hard enough, you can find similarities other than the obvious things like hair and eye color. But ultimately, I don't think anyone would see Ethan and say, "That guy looks just like Gregory Peck," unless they already knew the two were related.

He has the same exact eyebrows and faceshape.
I don't think he does. In fact I think Jonathan Bailey looks more like Gregory Peck than Ethan does. Ethan's face is hyper angular and his eyes are way too distinctive in a way that isn't reminiscent of Gregory at all. But it really doesn't matter to this discussion because Ethan looks like Bruce either way, even if it isn't the "Year One", "First Knight" and "Kingdom Come" way that resembles his grandpa.

Seemingly I'm not the only one that thinks the same about Jonathan/Gregory:

Anyway, I have a strong suspicion that Ethan will be on that shortlist. He's made it no secret that he's had this dream for a while now. I also recall him being one of several actors who congratulated David when it was announced that he had been cast as Superman. So it's definitely on his radar.

I do agree that I can see him as a finalist, especially seeing how the Superman stuff went.

If I had to pick which actors I can see the likeliest to end up as finalists whenever the inevitable "These 3 actors are set to screentest" news drops, it'd probably be 3 of these:
-Tom Brittney
-Brandon Sklenar
-Glen Powell
-Oliver Jackson Cohen
-Ethan Peck
-Ben Aldridge (Would be funny since he already played Thomas Wayne)
-Alan Ritchson
-Benjamin Walker
-Sam Heughan
-Lee Pace
-Tom Ellis

And if he's actually open to that level of fame and commitment: Josh Hartnett.

My ideal "these are the 3 finalists" list would probably be some mix of Lee, Brandon, and Aldridge. But I see it more likely as it ending up OJC or Brandon (can't decide which one feels more likely), Lee Pace, and maybe Powell or Ritchson who I doubt Gunn would want for Batman but I can see him wanting to establish some sort of relationship with either of them for some other role down the line, like Nic and Lex. Something like that.

Okay okay okay okay okay…

Photoshop a cowl on him and this is that O’Neil/Adams shirtless sword fight with Ra’s cover.

His physique feels so close to how Neal Adams drew Bruce's. Very muscular and obviously really strong, but still athletic.

I would just like to go on the record and say that I’d like to see a late-seventies-born hunk in the role. Take your pick…

You do realize that “70’s born hunk” describes me to a tee, right?

Some of the picks I'm seeing here seem more appropriate for a Reeves' Bruce, but may feel like they're in the wrong movie with a bratty 10 year old ninja son. Not that Bruce is a comedian, but they have to be able to sell that comedic dynamic.

And this Bruce needs to have dad vibes. Even if technically a 30 year old Bruce could have had Damian when he was 20, that doesn't make them dad material on screen. Pattinson himself (who I think is perfect in The Batman) is 38 and IMO still wouldn't be right for the Bruce/Damian dynamic.

Anyways, I think Hartnett and Pace would be great, with a preference for the former as I just find him a bit more endearing and exciting at the moment. Curious to see how he fares in Trap.

Now I'm more convinced than ever that being mid 40s does not rule out actors for Batman at all lol. In fact, most of the DCU male superheroes so far have been well over 40, with the exception of the ones they're seemingly making a point of being younger (Superman, Blue Beetle, John). A category I don't think this Batman will fit into at all since they're making him a father to the Bat-Family. They'd not be doing that if they were intending to make him fit into the "younger generation" instead of the ones that have already been around for a really long while, of which Guy Gardner, Hal Jordan, Mr. Terrific and Peacemaker (tho he's not really a superhero) seem to be a part of.

The Pace supremacy lives on...

Wait who ever said Batman can’t be in that age range? I thought that was the assumption we where working with?
