Brave and the Bold Casting Thread

Colin Woodell

He’s got a good look. I feel like his best showcase is probably that Continental show, but I don’t know if I have the energy for that one.

I've watched some clips of Sklenar from that show, and he does give off the brooding bad boy energy that Batman should have. I wouldn't be mad at him being picked.

This will never happen, but Hoechlin seems to want it.

ScreenRant: Have you guys seen Robert Pattinson [as] Batman? Do you think that Robert Pattinson's Batman fits into James Gunn's DCU?

Tyler Hoechlin: Well, selfishly, I'm going to say no because I still want to play Batman. I think and I say that Rob did a fantastic, fantastic job and [with] Matt Reeves it was great. So I'm happy to let them keep doing their thing, and maybe leave the door open...

I always thought Hoechlin had a better Bruce Wayne look than Superman. Just going by looks on that one; not necessarily acting or anything else.

Hoechlin played a great family-man Superman. I could see him being an equally great family-man Batman. He'd have no problem telling his Bat-kids to behave, that's for sure.

Not fully on board, but providing actual art to back the suggestion up does warrant a repost, as opposed to… *eyerolls at the Yellowstone people*

Though I remain convinced that white eyes are a no-go.

I’m all for considering him in the interest of taking a look at as many candidates as possible, but it is baffling to see so many who have settled on him being the guy already (despite the fact that we don’t even have a writer or director locked in that we’re aware of) and view him as being as dead-on for Batman as Corenswet was for Superman.

Hoechlin and Peck are both better options. I'd say Jarvis and Bailey are even better. There are a plethora of good options for Batman tbh. I would not include Brandon Sklenar in that bunch, and the fact that the internet has fixated on him because he has said the most perfunctory statements imaginable about how he'd play Batman in interviews is just kinda embarrassing imo. And using David Corenswet's popularity as a fancast as part of the reasoning - hi, as someone who championed Corenswet for Supes from the moment I first watched his performance in The Politician in 2019, I feel the need to say: Stop It. We Are Not The Same. Sklenar is NOT to Batman what Corenswet was to Supes, I am sorry.

Yeah. I see a lot of people justifying their preference for Slekanar with "yeah, but Corenswet" and I don't see the correlation at all.

Corenswets don't fall from trees. Corenswets who would be a great Batman don't, either.

They truly struck gold with him as Big Blue. What works about him as Superman is not that they picked a relatively unknown actor. It's that he's a true standout with (IMO) a bright future ahead of him, a great fit for the character and nailed the role 100% (in a truly unpredictable way, instead of making the obvious choices).

Its also immediately obvious how Sklenar would play Bruce and its so spectacularly boring.

Look, I was one of the few Corenskeptics out there and I will happily admit there was more to him than I thought there was from assorted substandard Ryan Murphy programs - Sklenar, on the other hand, I think has had his entire range shown off via something even worse: substandard Taylor Sheridan programs. Not an equivalent.

Yeah having watched a few episodes of 1923 enough to say that I even like Sklenar well enough in the show, I don’t want him as Batman. I can see why he’s being fancast, especially with some of the things that his character goes though on the show (you can easily make the Bruce Wayne parellels) but haven’t we gotten past the point where we decide someone is the one and only choice because they played a similar character? Okay then. Sklenar played an Elseworlds Bruce Wayne who lived in 1923. Batdon Sklenarists, you’ll always have that.

I think Tyler Hoechlin could nail a campier Batman, like a live action version of the Brave and the Bold cartoon. I don't know about a serious modern comics inspired Batman.

You guys remember an artist around here named Wams? He used to do Batman artwork with large, stylized lenses that were very evocative of a live-action TAS cowl.

That is the only way I've found the lenses to work - if they're stylized, larger and not trying to pass off as real eyes. Taking an actor's eyes and simply making them white is what gets you the zombie dead-stare.

I've also found that mirrored, reflective lenses make them more dynamic and visually interesting. Solid white lenses also give you the aforementioned zombie dead-stare.

Shape and size wise, I think the lenses in the artwork above are great. In fact, I dare say that cowl as a whole is kinda perfect. Just make the lenses reflective silver and we are cooking.

And I remain a staunch Ethan Peck guy. Think he'd be a lot of fun with Corenswet.

Someone on Twitter was being disrespectful of the idea of Bill Skarsgard playing Batman, now I need to see it happen to hasten their suffering. :o
As Joker, he'd kill it, as veteran Batman, father of a 10 yo boy, not so much.

Skarsgard is still on my shortlist even though Gunn will probably sign off on a more conventional choice.

I was thinking recently that he wouldn't be a bad Brainiac. Granted that may be a bit too much on the nose.

He’s 35, and there’s not even a script yet. His age shouldn’t be an issue; Skarsgard’s a good choice.
Still not convinced, watched lots of movies with him, he crushes it as a villain (Nosferatu, John Wick 4, It), but he sucks as an action star protagonist (Boy Kill World, The Crow).

His brother tho. . .

I haven’t seen Boy Kills World or The Crow yet but I wouldn’t hold the latter against him. That whole thing just seem like a bad idea from the jump.

He played good guys well in Barbarian and Locked (the latter was way better than it deserved to be, mostly elevated by Skarsgard’s charismatic lead performance and Hopkins doing some fun villainous scenery chewing).
