Brave and the Bold Casting Thread

The ideals, most of whom I don't think would actually be up for it, in no real order:

Jake Gyllenhaal
Cosmo Jarvis
Austin Butler
Jacob Elordi
Lee Pace
Oliver Jackson Cohen
Bill Skarsgard
If I could pick:

Bruce - Jake Gyllenhaal
Dick - Jacob Elordi
Babs - Thomasin McKenzie
Little D - Owen Cooper

If they cast an old enough actor for Bruce, my absolute dream Nightwing casting is Dev Patel.

Who they then let be Batman with Damian as Robin because if we're doing Morrison stuff, do the best Morrison stuff.

Steven Yeun also has the exact right brooding intensity (see: Burning) for Batman but even a DCU that wasn't obviously pointedly not doing any racebending would never have the balls to be open to a Batman who wasn't white.
I feel like there is decent crossover for Bruce and Bond. Which is why Dev Patel would be be great. Michael B. Jordan is the choice people act like Glenn Powell is.

Robin Williams in One Hour Photo has some of the same DNA as Adam Sandler and Steve Carrell in Uncut Gems and Foxcatcher. I love when primarily comedic actors do something totally unexpected.

Robin Williams not ever being in a Batman movie was a huge missed opportunity. I feel like casting Steve Carrell or Sandler in one of these would set things right in some weird cosmic way.

Carrell for Hugo Strange

Sandler for Rupert Thorne

I lowkey want a comedic actor to do a shock dramatic turn as Batman ala Keaton again. Bill Hader Batman has always stuck in my brain as an idea.

I know Burton already wanted Williams for his Riddler but he would've been so good as Reeves' version if The Batman was made in the late 80s or 90s.

for like a Keaton-ish, comedy to drama, unconventional pick....

Jake Johnson

just saying...

I like Jake Johnson well enough but I need to see him play something other than the same character he’s played in everything before I could ever see him as… anything else.

He would be great
This feels like an Eddie Dean type of suggestion. Didn’t you bring up this idea years ago?

It’s not the worst idea and he’s good for a Keaton esque pick, but I really don’t wanna see it for this version.

I’d be open to Johnson as A version of Batman, but not THIS version of Batman. I don’t really want an unconventional pick for this.

So, here's what is interesting to me: Has there been an unconventional pick for Batman on film since... Keaton?

Kilmer is incredibly obvious, Clooney was miscast but you see the logic, Bale is absolutely the exact kind of actor you'd imagine, Affleck was unexpected but isn't unconventional at all and Pattinson only feels unconventional because he's playing an unconventional take. Not a single one of them is a hugely off the beaten path option, the "Really?! Him?!" reaction to Affleck/Pattinson is strictly based in them being very famous for decidedly un-Batman things at the time of their casting rather than anything to do with their appearance or ability.

Keaton is the only one I can think of.

And Ledger for Joker of course. Farrell for Penguin was a head scratcher.

If we’re going with a primarily comedic actor as Batman, I’m honestly still really open to Will Arnett.

A long-term dream of mine is a modern Adam West style Batman series of a sort. Not a literal, retro throwback trying to emulate its exact style but a largely comedic, arch take that utilizes comedic performers while still remaining true to the spirits of the characters.

Dude, is that not one of the best audition reels for Batman ever?
I was sold after Priscilla, but this? Goddamn dude. I know he’s just a touch too young but he is far and away my favorite for it right now. Even my non comic book fan buddy texted me after watching Frankenstein and just said “Batman”.

I think it’s more likely he’s our Bond; I don’t see Elordi committing to a DCU gig

Just watched Frankenstein. Wow. They should abandon the Batman and Son concept, start with a smaller Batfamily, and cast Jacob Elordi as Batman!
Can't wait to see the movie, I've had a good feeling about it. Actually I wouldn't be against Guillermo directing the first DCU Batman. The Shape of Water in particular has a strong Batman TAS vibe for me.

That’s so funny you got a BTAS vibe from that movie because I got a total BTAS vibe from Nightmare Alley, and I don’t think I’ve ever been struck by that feeling before. It felt a lot like live action BTAS to me. I’d have been ok with Bradley Cooper as Batman tbh but I’m glad he’s Jor-El.

I’d be curious to see what a GDT Batman would look like. He’d be a million times better than Muschietti.

Pure Bruce Wayne right there. Wow.

Gunn’s Batman and Joker should be Frankenstein (‘s monster) and Nosferatu

Elordi would be great but i’m worried he wouldn’t do it
Elordi is the exact kind of actor they seem to actively want to avoid casting. Big name rising stars who are going to get very, very busy and expensive. It'll be someone much more low profile and affordable. Maybe they'll broke the mould because it is Batman after all, but I feel like we've got a pretty good read on who Gunn wants to cast.
