Brave and the Bold Casting Thread

Yeah, even though I think someone like Lindelof may have had relatively free rein to do what he wanted with Lanterns, I can't see Gunn not micromanaging Batman if he doesn't end up directing it himself (I still think that's a possibility...).

I also continue to believe that the DCU may not be so much an extended universe as many assume, as the addition of a "Gunn DC saga" (centered around Superman and Peacemaker) and satellite projects that, I assume, can exist without much of his influence and without major impact on his films (Clayface, Lanterns). Batman being apparently his favorite character, I guess he'll join the former group...

------

Off topic, but about Lindelof:
I started rewatching his Watchmen series, which I hadn't seen since it was first broadcast. I remember liking it but forgetting the details... and I don't know how I managed to forget so much, because I'm having a really, really great time rediscovering this series, which this time should definitely stick in my memory.

It's also a serious reminder of how dense and rigorous a superhero series can be when people really put their minds to it...
Best superhero show ever. Nothing comes close.

Watchmen is smarter and better written but Batman 66 is goated

I desperately need to actually watch Batman '66 sometime soon. The closest I got in recent memory was catching a rerun of "The Joker Trumps An Ace" while briefly hospitalized last week, but I couldn't even finish it because my mind was elsewhere :weeping:.

It’s honestly a great time. One of those perfect shows for when you need a pick-me-up. And frankly, a lovely antidote to all those folks who need their Batman to be SO SRS all the time. I found myself watching it a lot during the Snyder era lol.

Neil Gaiman is a freak but I used to consider his Sandman books to be among the best written DC stuff, and the first season was nearly perfect for me. Then the allegations dropped and I’m not able to enjoy it anymore , and didn’t even catch season two.

Watchmen is the highest quality show Marvel or DC has ever put out for sure though and bodes very well for Lanterns.

Batman 66 is always gonna be my favorite, no matter what! It’s one of my comfort shows, I love to watch it with my son. Perfect intro to Batman for little ones. TBH the Schumacher films are great for that too.

At some point I would like a true successor to that show, we’re overdue for another live action Batman tv show.

That might be a good way to have two concurrent Batman franchises - one on tv and one in theaters. TV has always been the best option to tell a more “complete” Batman story. Having two movie series still feels like a big risk.

Sandman was such a disappointment to me, especially season 2. The first season was a fun cosmic gothic show but didn’t really capture the poetry of the incredible comic run.

Agree with everyone on Watchmen being the GOAT comic book TV show. Lindelof on Lanterns is so insanely exciting

I’ll do a Watchmen rewatch closer to Lanterns, I’m sure. I haven’t watched since it originally aired but I was hooked week-to-week. Definitely top tier & looking forward to binging it.

But Daredevil is untouchable IMO; I like them all but especially S1 and S3. MCU could easily have their own The Penguin with Daredevil if they play it right

I never bothered with Sandman past the first episode, although my lack of deep familiarity with the source material didn't help much either.

But I also just don't understand looking at such moody, evocative artwork from the comics and deciding it needs to look like a random SyFy show.
