Breaking News: Osama Bin Laden Is Dead! - Part 4

Do you believe that Osama Bin Laden's killing was legal?

  • Yes

  • No

  • It honestly doesn't matter to me if it's legal or not. It's what needed to be done.

Perhaps you should lose the attitude? You have a right to your opinion just as I have a right to call you out on it.

You don't have the right to make false accusations. I understand that you're emotinal about the subject but use a little commonsense before you call someone out.

Saddam Hussein and Slobodan Milosevic both had trails. Bin Laden should have been no different.
Uday and Qusay Hussein were not given trials and they were killed in a very similar manner to how Bin Laden was. And like Bin Laden, there was a multimillion dollar reward out for information that led to their capture or deaths. And yet, there wasn't any of this *****ing when Uday and Qusay kicked the bucket. Why not? What makes Bin Laden so special? The Hussein sons were killed because we were at war with them and we were at war with Bin Laden for even longer.. a war that he started.

President Bush said that Bin Laden was wanted, dead or alive, and that position hadn't changed in 10 years despite a different president being at the helm. If anyone was going to complain about the concept of him being killed outright, no questions asked, it should have been done 10 years ago right after Bush made that statement... but nooooo... this is only coming out now, after the fact.

I think people would have been ashamed to have said it was wrong immediately after the attacks, but I guess some things change with time.

Uday and Qusay were killed because they were stacked in a house and were actually firing back. They clearly weren't going to surrender peacefully. But that is not entirely the case with Osama. There was only very little shooting in the beginning of the raid. After that the Seals had pretty easy access to bin laden. Bin laden was unarmed and they could have taken him alive. But they just didn't want to.

I guess we're forgetting about the part where he was going for a weapon when they entered the room

Uday and Qusay were awful men. They'd kill some soccer players if they played a bad game. They were monsters.

Monsters need to be slain.

I guess we're forgetting that he only "resisted". There hasn't been any reports saying "he was going for a gun so we had to shoot him". There's only been reports that he had guns on his reach, and that he was resisting. They haven't specified what kind of resistance he was putting on.

and therein lies the problem. I think people are confusing the SEALs with the police. if the police raided a house and shot the owner while saying he was making a threatening motion I would be questioning them too.

and really what would a trial done?

Given him more airtime to lay out his message.

Amazing to me that people are still upset that he was killed. He wasn't cooperating in some manner. There's a big difference in resisting a police officer and resisting a member of the Special Forces. If he wasn't putting his hands on his head, yelling "I SURRENDER!!!" and had firearms within his reach, he was a threat.

And to people who have been saying he was shot in the back of the head, CSI FAIL. Being shot in the side of the head, forced his brains out of his eye socket. Not something you want splashed on the evening news, and if a mosaic filter was placed over the gore, you still wouldn't be able to ID him.

I can assure you that I have plenty of common sense. I'm beginning to question whether you do or not though...

Well maybe use a little bit of it before you falsely quote me and save me for snide remarks please.

How about we ask the people that have fought and died for the right to a fair trial over the last century whether it should be taken away and see what they have to say?

which doesnt apply to war

So it's okay for members of Al Qaeda to cross international borders to conduct missions and assassinate unarmed Americans, but when Americans do the same in reverse, people get upset?

I think I'm seeing a pattern here....

That is dependent upon whether you believe Osama Bin Laden was a 'military commander' or was in fact just the public face of Al-Qaeda, I happen to believe the latter and therefore do not believe that the assassination was legally justifiable.

When you claim to be a nation that believes in democracy and the rule of law, sometimes you have to accept things that don't seem 'fair'.
