BREAKING NEWS: Russia invades Georgia

Georgia was the friend to Russia.
Russian-Georgian relations have been sour for quite some time because of Georgia being open to Western nations, particularly the United States and Russia's support of separatist groups in Georgia.

Georgia has attacked us. This treachery. All this that I can tell.
conclusions
Georgia did not attack Russia.

Exactly HH.........the fact that Russia has been working for months on the infrastructure into Georgia, and now this........I'm sorry, but I do not trust the motives of Putin and his cronies....I cannot believe that he actually said that "we" are holding on to "cold war" philosophies....that is just laughable.

Russia needs to listen to the security council, because if they continue this direction they are going to totally screw up their chance to join the WTO.....which they need desperately.

huh! then i post that :oldrazz:

Very good. :woot:

EDIT: Ok, after doing some reading of the subject, I gotta say that while this is tragic, its nothing new. It sounds like the problem would ideally be resolved between the South Ossetians and the Georgians. Whether or not Russia really needed to get involved is up for debate, but it is involved and likely will be for quite some time. Its another pointless squabble in a screwed up part of the world. The Soviet Union is not coming back and the conflict is not something that the US should get too involved in. Send diplomats, for all the good they'll do, but do no more.

Yes, Putin is far from a democracy lover, but I dont know if a Soviet style government will ever return.

When you consider something like 90% of the South Ossetians want to join Russia, and Russia actually GIVES them citizenship... it's not even remotely realistic to suggest that Russia shouldn't be involved.

I think Georgia thought they had US "backing" when they attacked South O., and were sort of shocked to find out.... they didn't. Whoops. At least not any kind real backing, not the kind that South O. had. Our backing here was really "impotent" because Russia didn't even hesitate to go all out, because they knew we couldn't (or wouldn't) do it. Thanks Iraq!

So by that note, when northern ireland has a majority catholic population (which is coming up quick) england should give the nation back to the irish, right?

Iraq isn't the reason the US doesn't want to fight russia. Billions of people dying in nuclear fallout is.

You have good arguments.
People of Ossetia have the Russian passports - and they not citizens of Russia? huh!
If your grandfather or father comes from France, or Mexico, or other country but live in America and have the American passports, they are Americans! Russia the multinational country, too!
If you well know a policy you should know about the conflict of Ossetia and Georgia! People of Caucasus were always aggressive. Not Russian.

From the moment of disintegration of the USSR there is a genocide Russian. About it do not speak mass-media but Russian see it. Russian expelled from Caucasus though they lived there and were citizens of Georgia.

The peaceful inhabitants were hidden in cellars of the destroyed houses.
The Georgian armies have started to fill cellars with water
And when women and children rose upward, left cellars to not sink, soldiers ruthlessly killed them

So terrible. It is insulting and is hurt. I know you never will take my point. But I love my country.

Each nation has the heroes and bastards. Always there will be a disinformation. But I am happy now. Our president has stopped military actions. I hope it will be good now

My friend tell me: Often there is no 'right' side and no 'wrong' side. Time will judge. I only wanted to show other point.

With that argument, then all the Texans that want to get Mexican citizenship should get it, AND MEXICO GETS THE LAND THEY LIVE ON?????

WTF???????

It's about sovereignty, not whether or not the people want Russian citizenship. If they want Russian citizenship, then they need to move to Russia.

And to TD, I may be reading you wrong, but....

A passport does not make you a citizen of a country. I have a passport but when I'm in Canada, I'm not Canadian, when I'm in Mexico, I'm not Mexican.....I'm a US citizen with a passport. BUT, as I said, I could be reading you wrong.

If you are saying that most in South O are Russian citizens with a passport, then you have a problem of true citizenship.

That would be like all the Mexicans in Houston, of which we have a great number WITH work visas etc.....and they decided that they wanted to live here but with Russian citizenship....so they rebel.........the US would fight. It's US land....

Are we saying that South O IS NOT under Georgian sovereignty?????????

I may be missing something here....lol

You have good arguments.
People of Ossetia have the Russian passports - and they not citizens of Russia? huh!

Russia gives the people of South Ossetia, Russian passports. Russia offered the people living in the region passports because the region is tied more closely to Russia than Georgia.

However, its people are not citizens of Russia at all.

If your grandfather or father comes from France, or Mexico, or other country but live in America and have the American passports, they are Americans! Russia the multinational country, too!
Not at all. Your example is people moving to America, becoming American citizens, and then getting passports.

However reality is that in Russia, the people of South Ossetia stay in South Ossetia, do not become Russian citizens, but Russia gives them passports and lets them use the ruble anyways.

If you well know a policy you should know about the conflict of Ossetia and Georgia! People of Caucasus were always aggressive. Not Russian.
I do know about the conflict in the Caucasus, I have always enjoyed researching quite a bit on Russia and international politics and this is a clear example or illegal Russian aggression. The South Ossetian rebels broke the cease-fire. Georgia decided to use this as the excuse to exert its authority in its own territory (not Russia's) but went a little too far and some peacekeepers were accidentally killed. Russia then responded illegally by invading South Ossetia and kicking the Georgians out of their own territory and continually attacking Georgia.

From the moment of disintegration of the USSR there is a genocide Russian. About it do not speak mass-media but Russian see it. Russian expelled from Caucasus though they lived there and were citizens of Georgia.
And the Russians are causing thousands of Georgians to flee from their homes because of their invasion. And most Russians left on their own accord because Russia no longer dominated areas in the Caucasus, Baltics, etc.

The peaceful inhabitants were hidden in cellars of the destroyed houses.
The Georgian armies have started to fill cellars with water
And when women and children rose upward, left cellars to not sink, soldiers ruthlessly killed them
Considering that I've only heard such things from the Russian media which is dominated by the Russian government, I'm not exactly going to believe that Georgian war crimes were that harsh.

It's pretty obvious that Georgia has committed war crimes in their offensive against South Ossetia, but that severe sounds more like a Russian propaganda campaign.

So terrible. It is insulting and is hurt. I know you never will take my point. But I love my country.
Each nation has the heroes and bastards. Always there will be a disinformation. But I am happy now. Our president has stopped military actions. I hope it will be good now
It won't be good. Your Prime Minister has the attitude that he can do anything he wants and he's getting away with it. Georgia has been violated. And the Transcaucasus will likely be destabilized because of this.

And your country ended its military action because it completely annihilated Georgia.

My friend tell me: Often there is no 'right' side and no 'wrong' side. Time will judge. I only wanted to show other point.
There is a wrong side in this. Georgia's rights as a nation were completely and utterly violated. Russia violated Georgia's territorial integrety, competely ruined its military, destroyed much of its infrastructure, etc. supposedly over dead peacekeepers. ********.

When you consider something like 90% of the South Ossetians want to join Russia, and Russia actually GIVES them citizenship... it's not even remotely realistic to suggest that Russia shouldn't be involved.
No, most South Ossetians want independence with very close association with Russia. Russia gives them passports and money and offers citizenship to its people. However offering citizenship to people who don't even live in your country in mass quantities who aren't even going to live in Russia is completely absurd.

I think Georgia thought they had US "backing" when they attacked South O., and were sort of shocked to find out.... they didn't. Whoops. At least not any kind real backing, not the kind that South O. had. Pretty much

- The United States is promising that Russia will face consequences for its actions with one US official saying that business as usual with Russia is not going to happen.

- Both NATO and the European Union are in discussions with the United States on how to go forward with Russia now.

- Some US officials are hinting that Russia might get kicked out of the G8 and it's bid to join the WTO is endangered by this.

- NATO has come out in support of Georgia over Russia and is staying on course to join the alliance with a decision to be made in December. Poland is saying Russia's actions could speed up Georgia's membership process. Others have said not so much.

- Georgia has left the Russian dominated Commonwealth of Independent States.

Russia rightly won this. Yes their response was devastating, but considering they were not the aggressors in this, despite what the Western Media will tell you, they had every right to respond when their own soldiers and citizens were being killed.

And once again, the neocons have been proven to be the mindless armchair general wannabees that they are. They encouraged Georgia, they armed Georgia, they been hounding and harassing the Russians for years through NATO and other political instruments. May they burn in hell for the devastation they have wrought on this world.

I suspect a tiny bit of subjective personal bias may exist in that post.

hey to each his own. I suspect if actions against Russia are implemented, maybe a few years down the line Russia will start selling their un-counted nukes to terrorists on the black market. If that's the case, I sure as hope nobody over there has read Mother Russia, and get ideals....

Yeah, the world community including the EU, NATO, and G7 countries want some type of action taken towards Russia, and they will get it. I have a feeling it will be that they are declined a part of the WTO, but I doubt that that will be forever, it will just not be as quickly as they would like. As far as being a member of the G8 countries, the same thing will probably happen, they will be out for awhile.

But, more than anything, Russia just took themselves back to the Cold War with these actions..........and they say that "we" the US still hold on to Cold War thinking....that's just laughable.

Europe watched three days as Georgia did a genocide in Ossetia.
Russia wanted to call to European Union. But nobody has made decisions.
Why anybody did nothing? Only Russia did! And Russia gets accused! Nonsense
Your logic very odd to me.
We do not want to dominate. We want to live.

The Georgian authorities have made everything that foreign journalists did not doubt in "aggressions of Russia”. You trust lie!

Russia have lost for information war. Russia is justified for actions what Russia did not make and all world supports the real aggressor

You do not trust me. You tell about Russian propaganda campaign. But for your logic, why you trust the media? Nonsense, again.
You live on the other end of the world. And you speak it so as if were here and saw it!
To judge from the other side it is much easier. Nobody threatens you.
You do not know about terrorism by caucasus in territory of Russia. You do not know about a mass genocide.

“your country ended its military action because it completely annihilated Georgia”
Sounds more like a anti-Russian propaganda campaign
We didn’t. Events have been exaggerated. Our armies are deduced from Georgia.

So what information are you basing this on? If we're puppets of the "western media" aren't you just going along with what your gov. is telling you on this? Russia has been building troops for an attack along the borders, restocking supplies and correcting lines for months now. That's fact, too many photos to deny it. So they were completely ready to invade on a moments notice, they also did it at a time when georgia had far less troop strength and the world was distracted by the olympics. You can't say that was all coincidence.

Not enough peacekeepers died to talk about genocide in any form and russia has killed at least 100 georgians to every dead russian (and that's being generous) along with decimating cities.

We do know about terrorism, it's all over the world. You shouldn't speak as if russia is the only country with problems, or with conflicts. And aren't you judging our reactions from the other side of the world as well? Give us something other than you "saying" stuff to show us your point. And is it possible, just possible, that you're the one believing in gov. lies?
