Brett Ratner wants to do....get ready....Guitar Hero!

They already did this in a South Park episode..and it was better than anything Ratner could ever come up with...

I thought the writers' strike was over?

Yep, Ratner's only opportunity to make a movie decent is to find the greatest script on Earth, and then go from there. If he made 'The Godfather', I don't think it'd be the highest-rated film of all-time any longer.
Dance Dance Revolution!!!

:thing: :doom: :thing:
Oh my God, 'The Wizard'... here we come, again:whatever:

I'm not really surprised at this news.I blame IGN for this.

Besides the fact that I don't understand how you can make a Guitar Hero movie, I would like to add that Rock Band is a superior game.

It could be kind of like Spinal Tap but more over the top. Still, I'd have to question why such a movie would be needed when Spinal Tap already exists, except that most of today's young people haven't seen it.

Looks like Brett Ratner finally found a franchise worthy of his exceptional talent.

He has a plot in mind, I see... :o

Brett Ratner said:
"I love ‘Guitar Hero’ and I think it’s a part of pop culture. I would love to do a ‘Guitar Hero’ movie, if Activision would ever let me. I’m trying to convince them, but why would you have a movie screw up such a huge franchise? Not that I would make a bad movie. So that would be cool, to do a ‘Guitar Hero’ movie.”

And here is his idea for the plot:

"It could be about a kid from a small town who dreams of being a rock star and he wins the ‘Guitar Hero’ competition. One of these dreams-[come-true] kind of concepts."

I love how he says: "Not that I would make a bad movie" :hehe:

Hey, The Writers Strike had one positive:

- It made Conan O'Brien go completely insane, which led to awesome shows.

^ LOL! :D

I think that Brett Ratner is competent as a "studio director..." That is, when the studio is handling most of the production, he's an OK guy to just hire to make it happen with the actors. Basically, he's good as a yes man for producers, so wether or not his movies are good really depends on the people he's making it for. He certainly does not meet the criteria of being an auteur though.

I thought if he was doing a Guitar Hero movie, it would be based on the characters in the game.

Like a satirical look at their rise from dingy bars to superstardom, and they challenge other classic guitarists along the way.

I'm surprised that Ratner doesn't think Activision would like his movie, because his idea essentially a 90 minute commercial for the game, like The Wizard was for Nintendo products. If he wants to make a serious attempt at it, it should be based on characters from the game and their rise to stardom. I don't want to go so far as to say it should be a mockumentary, but there should be fake documentary clips peppered throughout the movie for flavor.

While I hold to it that Rock Band is the superior game, I will give credit to Guitar Hero for being slightly less impossible to adapt into a film.

Me too. I wish they'd still do scriptless shows every now and then just for old time's sake. :(
