The rumor has been floating around the community for a while, but here is the first evidence that might suggest this is more than just a Guitar Hero fanboy's dream. The Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle (USK), Germany's software rating organization, has updated its listings with a new entry: Guitar Hero: Van Halen.

The title of the game suggests this would be a compilation similar to Guitar Hero: Aerosmith and Guitar Hero: Metallica. The fact that such title made its way onto the German ratings board implies the game will be released in 2009 and that will be in line with Activision's plans to release a couple of Hero music games before the end of the year. One is supposed to be DJ Hero and now the USK could have revealed which one is the other.

IMO, this would kick ass. Van Halen was and still is freakin incredible.

This is the only spin off game that Activision could make that I would buy. Van Halen is one of my favorite rock groups ever, and I would be more than willing to give them money to play most of their library of songs.

I hope it's true.

I'd rather have Van Halen on Rock Band, but it seems like Activision is trying to monopolize as many bands as they can get.

It's a smart move, since it gives incentives to have people buy your product.

I mean, the reason I shelled out the money for World Tour was due to Activision having exclusives with two bands: The Eagles and Van Halen.

Both of those bands made the whole game worth owning. :D

I really don't see this happening. Mainly because Van Halen doesn't really have anything going on, no new album and their reunion tour ended last year. While they're definitely one of the great rock n' roll bands, they aren't exactly top of mind right now.

Yea, it probably won't happen in the same way that Metallica didn't happen. :p

never underestimate EVH's hunger for the almighty dollar. He's second to only Gene Simmons in slapping the band logo on merchandise.

I wonder if he'll have final say on the tracks that go on there? I wonder if he'll exclude everything from the "Van Hagar" era just to spite SH from ever collecting royalties. EVH is kind of a prick like that. Then I again I think he still hates DLR too, so who knows?

Yea, it's sort of an equal opportunity hating. :p

If they follow the trend of Metallica and Aerosmith, then yea, chances are Eddie will get to have a large say in what songs they use. As long as we get a good mix of Lee Roth era and Hagar era music, I'll be happy.

Heck, who am I kidding, as long as Panama and Ice Cream Man are on there, I'll be happy. :D

Eruption is a must, although I'd imagine that will be the cause of many a blister

Really? It goes Gene Simmons then Eddie Van Halen? Aerosmith had a video game in the '90s that had little to nothing to do with music and has a ride at MGM Studios in Florida. Look at Ozzy Osbourne recently he's selling World of Warcraft and has a variety show with his family. What non music related products do Van Halen have it's logo on?
