Brian Grazer to produce Splash reboot

Oh my gosh love this idea!

Better not make it dark and gritty though!

If they go with the plot as described in the article, it doesn't sound much like the original movie. The plot's only got a few shared elements.

Either making it a merman or giving it the pov of the merperson they choose.

It sounds similar to a Hong Kong movie released recently called "the mermaid". Seriously, you should all check it out. It's directed by the guy who did Kung fu hustle

Fish top with man bottom half or GTFO!

We have the technology, we can do it.

Merman... for some reason it brought this to mind:

I loled at the idea of Tatum as a Merman.

I can't see anyone being super mad about it here at the Hype. It's fine. The original appeal to a certain crowd, along with this one.

This might be funny, but they really missed a golden opportunity. Should have been Rachel Bloom. She's already got the tail and everything.

This is going to be an absolute disaster, hahaha.

I'm already waiting for the Box Office Mojo report the following Monday: "Splash Remake Fails to Make a Splash on Opening Weekend"

I can't wait until guys on social media start throwing fits as if this is an iconic movie of their youth. :o

Hahaha. I think this movie is safe. But I'll believe anything now.

I think most remakes are safe from a Ghostbusters-level of backlash until they start making Back to the Future and Gremlins announcements. Goonies, too. Then the riots will start again. I'll throw Beetlejuice into the mix too.

Honestly, there many sacred '80s cows that should never be remade (Back to the Future, Raiders of the Lost Ark, E.T., The Goonies, The Breakfast Club, etc). Splash isn't one of them.

I'm just waiting for the backlash of Jillian Bell being cast as Channing Tatum's love interest.

I would absolutely LOVE a Goonies remake. Just don't set it in the 80s and automatically it will be more of a film inspired by it and a film that modern day kids would love. Basically in the cell phone internet age that's a film that would be very different. Talking 'The Thing' or 'The Fly' level different.

It's not like Tom Hanks was a beefcake.

Plus he's going after an ex-girlfriend mermaid, so there will be a super hot mermaid for the guys.

or boyfriend. you forget we are dealing with Hollywood

A bisexual mermaid/merman movie? While that would be cool, Hollywood isn't there yet... Comically probably didn't think that could be read that way... Given that with this movie think or at least from first post that it's a triangle with merman and another mer and a woman.
