Ponies were popular in the Funny Pic thread a while back. They drew a lot of flack from the big boy posters. So I figured I'd make this thread for myself and other Hypesters who enjoy MLP:FIM to explain why the show has such a broad demographic:

Keep in mind this is someone who remembers my little ponies (mlp) being a toy/crappy show for girls in the 80s/early 90s, and that I normally enjoy typical manly things such as violence, suggestive themes, and language in my TV/movies/video games. So the mere fact that someone with my taste likes it should speak volumes.

I kept hearing about how it was superb and that 15-30 year olds actually like it. I didn’t pay too much attention until late last November, when I was starting to wonder what made this show good, so when I had some free time around then, I started watching it to see what the fuss was all about. This show really changed my way of thinking because this show did things that is sometimes lacking in most media that I enjoy.

This show does an outstanding job in the story department, has Dynamic and interesting characters from main characters, even does a good job characterizing minor ones, humor that that can be enjoyed by various age groups, superb voice acting, and has some really good animation in it. Honestly the only reason I can think of someone truly hating this show would be from Gender Polarization: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gender_polarization

A big part of the reason that it is good is that the executive producer, Lauren Faust, put a lot of effort into making it appealing to more than the original demographic (young girls). She wanted something that parent can enjoy with their daughters. They were so successful that they didn’t just get parents; they got a broad range of ages to love it as well.

If you are familiar with the Power Puff Girls, Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends, or any of the works from any of the writers, or Lauren Faust, then you have a good idea why people hold this show in high regard.

This show reminded me why the quote “you can’t judge a book by its cover” is true.

If there was one thing I learned from this show it is this: With enough effort, you can truly can make anything entertaining, and appeal to all audiences.

Anyways, I hope this is helpful for understanding why My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic is considered so good by many (including me). If you are still unconvinced that this show is for you, then I would recommend watching a few episodes. Any of us Bronies would be more than happy to give some recommended episodes to watch if you need some guidance.

If it turns out you don’t like the show, that’s OK, we don’t mind at all, but I hope you will at least appreciate that a show such as this can be liked by a general audience without the usually need to included Violence, language, etc. in it. If you find that you like it, we welcome you to the Brony community, and can guarantee you will get something out of it.
