Bryan Fuller to remake The Munsters for NBC

yeah I'm on the fence about it. I'm not particularly attached to the original series so it's not issue of source-faithfulness. I'm really interested in seeing Izzard and De Rossi. jerry o'connel's been a favorite of mine, but he's not a deal breaker for me. as for fuller, for the most part I've liked his work, didn't really watch pushing daises, but I liked what I saw, but I mostly liked that show for Sonnenfeld's direction and kristen chenoweth.

I guess she's odd in her own way because she's stuck in the 50s.

Well, for all we know, this could end up having that semi-timeless feel that Pushing Daisies had. Olive kind of dressed the same way.

Deadline:
Cheyenne Jackson (30 Rock) is set for a guest starring role in NBC’s Munsters reboot Mockingbird Lane. Written by Bryan Fuller and to be directed by Bryan Singer, the pilot is described as a reinvention of the 1960s sitcom about The Munsters, a family of “monsters” — vampires, werewolves and Frankenstein, and their “plain” cousin (Charity Wakefield). Jerry O’Connell plays family patriarch Herman Munster, who is married to Lily (Portia de Rossi), a vampire, with whom he has fathered a 10-year-old boy, Eddie (Mason Cook). Eddie Izzard plays Grandpa. Jackson will play Scout Master Steve, Eddie’s charming, cheerful new Scout Master, a widower with no children of his own who becomes smitten with Lily. Jackson, repped by ICM and the Schiff Co., also just booked a role in Steven Soderbergh’s Liberace biopic for HBO Behind the Candelabra as Jerry O’Rourke, Liberace’s former lover and right-hand man on stage. He currently appears in the feature Lola Versus.

TV Line:
Exclusive: Bryan Fuller Fave Beth Grant Cast as Munster Neighbor in NBC's Mockingbird Lane
by Kimberly Roots

Every neighborhood needs a busybody, and now Mockingbird Lane has one.

TVLine has learned exclusively that Beth Grant will play the part of Maryanne, a 40-something wheelchair-bound woman who’s very suspicious of her creepy new neighbors, in NBC’s upcoming reboot of The Munsters.

You’ll recognize the veteran character actress from previous stints on Pushing Daisies and Wonderfalls, which were also helmed by Mockingbird’s Bryan Fuller — and both in which Grant played a quirky character named Marianne Marie Beattle.

The original Munsters, which ran from 1964-66, had no character called Maryanne — maybe Fuller created the role with Grant in mind? (If she starts baking muffins, we’ll know something’s up.)

The actress joins a cast that includes Portia DeRossi and Jerry O’Connell as Lily and Herman Munster, Eddie Izzard as Grandpa, Mason Cook as Eddie and Charity Wakefield as Marilyn.

Kid genuinely looks like he was born to play Eddie Munster.

That mansion looks straight out of Pushing Daisies. Which means I automatically love it.

Sigh, Pushing Daisies. How I miss thee. :csad:

Mansion does look good. Still very skeptical of the show, but willing to give it a shot due to Fuller being involved.

Sigh. I kept thinking "Where's An Francisco?"

I thought that for a split second before I noticed the S had fallen off.

Anyone know if they're shooting on location in San Fran at all?

I don't think so. I believe it's filming in Vancouver, but I'm not 100% sure. I think Fuller said that's where they were scouting locations a few months back.

In the time since my last post on this subject, I have thought about this series and my reaction to their interpretation of it.

I responded the same way fans of certain film franchises do when a new vision is announced. I let my feelings guide my response, instead of being objective, as a critic should. After all, film/tv is more than a synopsis: it is a system of elements including sound, video, color, and performance and more.

To judge an entry based on a piece of information out of context is absurd. Furthermore, my reaction prevented me from engaging in a civil dialogue. I had become what I despised, the whining fanboy.

With that said, I am going to give this a chance. Bryan Singer's involvement alone caused me to question my response, as he is an artistic hero. In addition, Eddie Izzard's presence has indicated this might be a satisfying, possibly enjoyable viewing.

Regardless, on the night it airs, I will crack open a can of Moosehead and watch it with an open mind.

I'm probably the only person in the world who didn't like Pushing Daises all that much :o But I love Fuller's other stuff outside that (Dead Like Me and Wonderfalls = sex on a screen). I don't have any real attachment to The Munsters, but the cast and ideas behind this seem pretty solid, so if it gets picked up, I'll watch it until it gets canceled.

I hope it does well. I really like to see big productions like this on TV.

They're shooting in Los Angeles. The pilot, at least. I took my parents on the Universal tour and they were in the middle of shooting. 1313 Mockingbird Lane looks great up close too.

Oh, are they? I could've sworn Fuller said on twitter a little while back that he and Singer were scouting locations somewhere in British Columbia.
