Wow, some of these I want a mix of answers. *rats* Okay, Superman kills, but only as a last resort. *boyscout* The S on his chest is Kryptonian, for the El family. Martha is alive and she made his suit. I like the S on his cape, but it's not a deal breaker if it's not there. It should match the shield. Lois is both Clark's rival and friend and Lex is a rich criminal mastermind who also happens to be a mad scientist (That's way more fun than a suave business man) Superman and Batman are friendly, not actually friends, per se. They do have an antagonistic relationship at times, but remain on good terms for the most part. Superman's primary motivation is to help the helpless (and then justice) and Lois is the love of his life. :heart: The true persona .. this is hard but I'll choose Superman. And yes, he is still haunted by the loss of his parents, planet and people. Metropolis is the city of tomorrow and they love having Superman around. He is primarily the protector of Metropolis and Earth. (and kicks villians and alien vlilians bums on the side) Brainiac is a mix of two, Coluan and AI. Kryptonite exists in two forms, only.

Hey, this looks like fun Clarky! Here's my answers with comments. I figure a lot of people will disagree with me but they are just my opinions:

I don't like the idea of Superman killing ever, but it does create some interesting story possibilities if he doesn't have any other options. Particularly, how he deals with his feelings in the aftermath.

One thing I don't like about Bryne's reboot is, it seemed to me that he systematically went through and removed every hardship from Superman's life. Krypton seemed like such an unappealing place that I wondered if Kal-El would really want to live there. It seems implied that it is unusual for a husband to tell his wife that he loves her. You almost feel good for Kal-El that he is spared that existence and instead grows up with the Kents. And of course the Kents are both kept alive ready and able to provide support whenever Clark needs. I think having Johnathan die is a powerful way to link Clark to humanity and help us relate to him.

Yeah, I think the costume should be kryptonian just because it makes the sheer outlandish of it actually seem somewhat feasible. It's an alien design. I live in the midwest and I can guarantee you that there are very few midwestern mothers who would send their grown up sons out the door with their underwear outside of their pants!

I don't mean campy, Superfriends-style friends. The way I imagine these two are like two old warhorses who have been through many battles together. They have the utmost respect for each other and I bond that they don't have with anyone else. They are both orphans who lived through horrific tragedies and are now trying to make the world a better place. I'm NOT a fan of the petty squables that they are often written as having. It just makes them look like they are still in junior high.

I highlighted justice too because that should be a part of his motivation but ultimately helping the helpless should be what Superman's about. I think that gets back to the core of what Siegal and Shuster were after. IMO DC has lost its way a bit with Superman. If you asked most people what Superman's defining attribute is they would say "he's a boyscout." I think there's something wrong if that is his defining attribute. To me, Superman's defining attribute should be his COMPASSION. There's just something different about him when it comes to the suffering of others. He empathizes with their pain in a way that most people don't. People tend to have a certain disdain for people they perceive to be generic "goody-goodies." No one looks down their nose at a guy who spends his free time with AIDS patients in Africa.

This is a big one for me. I'm just not comfortable with the idea of Superman merely being a facade, disguise, or carefully crafted public image that Clark Kent has to pretend to be. Superman is the one hero for whom there should be NO PRETENSE. When you see Superman, you see the man that the little boy from Smallville grew up to be. To me, taking away the idea that Clark is a nobody, robs the Superman mythos of one of its most fun aspects. In the post crisis version his life really does seem perfect. He was a star sports jock in high school. When he grows up as Clark he wins awards for journalism, is popular around the office, and even marries the girl of his dreams. And did I mention when he's Superman, he gets parades thrown in his honor? It is much more fun to see the shy, awkward guy, that no one respects, be the world's greatest hero!

I think this could make for some great characterization but too often I think writers are scared to go this direction. A backwards wacko, but he doesn't think he's Superman at all. I look at the way Bizarro existed before Infinite Crisis for an example of a good Bizarro. Answer B is the closest to that.

I'd look to Byrne's MoS for a good level of strength for Superman; easily lifting that enormous space plane and landing it safely, but he couldn't lift a continent (there's a huge difference between the last 3 answers. Couldn't you have put down a few more possible options to fill in those gigantic gaps?). Again, option B is the closest to describing how I feel about that topic.

I loved Byrne's Krypton. Its rich history is great for showing that not only did Jor-El want to save his son from an exploding planet, but also their dying civilization. It's also much more heartwarming to see that, in a world filled with emotionless robots, Jor-El stands apart and proclaims that he loves his wife right before their death. That shows the unique and strong stock that Superman comes from.

There's also the fact that Superman is supposed to be the most human of us all and the stark contrast between Krypton and Earth, the planet that raised him, also reinforces the final words at the end of Byrne's MOS; that Krypton gave him his powers, but Earth made him who he is. The emphasis on Earth was a welcome addition in MOS, rather than Superman's character being a 50/50 split between Earth and a dead planet that has no reason to affect his life anymore. He still respected his heritage and was saddened that all of them were dead, but he moved on.

IMO, there's nothing not to like with that version of Krypton. It took all of the elements that are expected from Superman's origin (rocket ship escaping exploding planet, noone believing Jor-El, etc) and made them resonate so much more than had ever been done in the past.
