All right, I was sitting on my back porch, listening to the freeway and kinda zoning out.
I notice this jet in the distance, miles past the line of houses and trees at the other side of the freeway. It was near (what would serve as) the horizon, and looked to be going straight up, so I assumed it had just taken off.
The jet's exhaust stream became higher and higher over the passing minutes. Then I started thinking I saw the stream tilting. At first I guessed this must be an illusion from sleepiness, but no, it quite clearly was tilting at a steady pace.
It had tilted maybe 50-60 degrees by the time I went inside. But the weird thing was... the jet was always at the top end of the stream. The stream stayed roughly straight and never broke, but only widened from natural dissipation and wind.
How was that even possible?
