Can this be the year of the Duke?

Light of day or darkest of night?

  • Come get some....in 09...only for the 360 and PC

  • It will come in 09, but not exclusive

  • Maybe timely exclusive, but not forever, oh yeah, and 09 release

  • It´s too early to talk about exclusivity as the game is not going to be released this year

  • The day it gets released is the day the Earth dies in a ball of flame

  • I just don´t care anymore

Time to resurrect this beast. Anyone see this? It was just announced last week.

Duke-Nukem-Forever-Balls-of-Steel-Edition-525x489.jpg

And the digital version?

After seeing it, I originally thought I'd be all over the Balls of Steel Edition. But now that I've had time to think about it I'm not sure. The bust of Duke and the art book are really the only things I would ever care about in that set....and is that really worth an extra $40?

Hmmm....

One of the members of the official Gearbox forum made this cool vid regarding the history of DNF. I HIGHLY recommend you guys watch it.

Honestly? No. Developers are packaging a LOT of fluff with games anymore to get even more money from us. The best example of that is the MK Kollectors Edition... I want that game, but I'm not giving them 40 extra bucks for book ends.

Dead Space 2 and LBP 2 did it right, they gave us a good bit of stuff (LBP the most with a plush, bookends and in game items) for 80 bucks. 20 bucks more for a "collectors" edition is just right, IMHO. Even with all of that junk they have in the BoS edition... it's all just fluff. Poker chips? No thanks, I have enough of them lying around from the crappy New Vegas collectors edition... but at least that was 80.

Getting the original games with it sounds more appealing to me,

This. However, they should be on EVERY copy of the game.

There is a lot of fluff in this one and really I don't need it, but I will get it because I've been waiting for this game for almost 15 years. I still have my old PC Gamers from the late 90's that had previews for this game. That and I really want an old school game, I tire of a lot of the on-a-rail shooters of today.

Though there is one thing I really really want on this collectors edition is a DVD documentary of what happened with this game. This with out a doubt is one of the most interesting game development cycles in the history of gaming. I want to see a good few hour documentary and talk with George and so forth and just try to paint a picture of why the hell this game took almost 15 years to make.

I kinda wish they just put the "documentary" stuff directly in game, like The Chronicles of Riddick and Valve games. It gives you a pretty decent reason to shoot through the SP again and feels alot more direct and personal. It's kinda suprising more games don't do it. Outside of those two games, can't think of any from the top of my head.

You're getting a BOOK with that info in it. Given the research Ive done. From the research I've done,George Broussard's ambitions were greater than the technology available That and every time a new engine came out he would want to upgrade and every time a new game would hit with good ideas, he'd want to incorporate that into Duke. Nobody had the balls to tell the guy no untill it was too damned late.

Yea a book is still different from a documentary. And that is why I said I would have liked that.

And yea that is the common stuff everyone knows that Wiki posts quickly about George and his ambitions. But in the real world, it's never that simple. I want to know more of the details behind it all. Not just a quick quote on it.

Fair enough, I suppose it would be coolto hear his side of the story.

I am actually considering that Ultimate Collecters edition thing

Btw, did anyone here attend Pax East last weekend? If so, how was the DNF demo there?

Duke delayed until June. Epic LOL video from Gearbox follows.

At least it's only a month this time, lol. I also think it's fairly good marketing. However, I think Gearbox should have late dated the game and then, all of the sudden, launch it early. That would have been genius.
