The Amazing Spider-Man Can't they do SOMETHING to mix this with Marvel's movieverse?!

I get that Sony owns the rights to produce Spider-Man films, and that means they can't mix in Marvel characters that their studio doesn't own the rights to, AND that Sony wouldn't give up those profitable rights for anything...

But, this seems like a perfect opportunity to place Spider-Man in Marvel's growing movieverse, alongside the likes of Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, etc.

Couldn't they make some kind of deal with Marvel wherein they retain the rights (they thereby profit), but are allowed to mix their reboot with Marvel's movie characters and universe? I'm sure the two studios could come to some kind of agreement that would allow Sony and Marvel both a fair amount of creative control...

I'm not so sure. Too much greed on either side.

I'll never expect to see such a thing happen, unless Sony just flat out relinquished the rights for a hefty check.

Especially with a 2012 deadline...

But what WOULD the movie look like if they could!

my hope is, that this reboot never sees daylight so that after a few years the rights will go back to marvel

This is my dream.

Although its way to complicated at this point.

Lets think about it for a second. Disney now owns Marvel. Paramount has distributing rights over Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America.

So even if Disney bought the filming rights for Spider-Man they would then have to negotiate something with Paramount, which won't happen as Disney will want to distribute the film.

SHHHHHH Don't ruin the moment...

Paramount will distribute the films Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America, Avengers, and Iron Man 3. They do not own any longstanding rights to distribute films based on these characters, and DisMarvel certainly would not need to negotiate anything with Paramount in order to mix franchises

That said, this won't happen.

But wouldn't such a partnership benefit both parties, really?

Spider-Man has had a large general population following for years. Iron Man is now a massive hit as well. Imagine the ticket sales if moviegoers were told that both characters would now exist within the same universe and interact onscreen!

Sony gets the benefit of being able to show Spider-Man interacting with more Marvel characters, while Marvel gets the benefit of having Spider-Man make a cameo in The Avengers!

I mean, what a missed opportunity this would be if a full reboot happens without any connection to the new Marvel movie universe...

what a waste...

Not sure about that. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Paramount has distribution rights for these characters until they relinquish (sell the rights).

Just like Universal has Hulk and, Fox has the X-Men, and Sony with Spider-Man.

Marvel probably wishes they could have sold ALL the characters to Disney.

Instead Sony owning the rights to this one,Universal owning the rights to these two-three and Paramount owning four-five.

Sounds like baby-papa drama where all the kids got different daddies and mommy wants to have a family gathering but the dad's aren't having it...*sigh*.......................:whatever:

i just wish Disney owned all the rights to Marvel characters, just like WB owns the rights to DC characters

things would be much simpler

Spider-Man in MY Avengers?

*faint*

Theres a difference between being in the same general universe as Iron Man, TIH, Thor, etc. and being a part of the actual Avengers team.

You guys really want a 18 year old Parker tangling with a 50 year old RDJ? Down the line, great, but not this current Avengers series. If so, I am sure Disney would have filed the law suit last week if Spidey fit into their immediate plans.

Oh and one other thing, PLEASE ACQUIRE KINGPIN FOR ****'s sake. Dare Devil is dead and Rothman knows it.

Tony is significantly older than Peter in the comics, yet they often interact in that medium. Why is it any different on film?

It won't look right on screen with such an age disparity. The comics can mask that quite a bit. I am all for Spidey eventually coming into Avengers, but I understand that if they don't get this worked out now, it will never happen. There is no need for Spidey to be a featured Avenger anyway, not anytime soon. As far as cameos, absolutely. But Marvel has to be fair. Lend characters out to Sony, and they will return the favor.

There's no way they'll cast a 15 year old as Spidey. I'm willing to bet on that. At the least, the actor playing him will probably be in the 18-20 age range.

No way. Sony has too much money in this thing to let Marvel take it back.

I reeeally wish this would happen. Plus, it'd benefit Sony because they could get some dough if Spidey were to appear in an Avengers movie. Which, if Marvel was allowed to use him WOULD happen.

Paramount only has the distribution rights to Iron Man 2 & 3, Thor, First Avenger: Captain America, and Avengers. Disney will distribute any further Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, and Hulk films.

So I guess only Fox and Sony have complete control over the Marvel franchises they bought during the 90's right?

In that case it'd be awesome if Sony and Disney could broker a deal to have Spidey in with IM, Thor etc.

Although this is nothing but a gigantic dream.

Well if they are looking for a Harry Potter type 5-6 movie franchise then you have to cast young. But I doubt Sony is looking that far ahead. Probably we'll get a movie and a few sequels and we'll be in the same boat as we are in now, so I agree more or less.

For fans it would be awesome

It means Sony giving up a % of their profits for an unnecessary expense, however, and they won't do it.
