The Avengers Cap's suit. Good or bad?

Nice try, but I like the original better.

The brow manip looks a bit better though.

Honestly I really don't have much of a problem with the helemt other than it throws off the head to body proportions.

One think I've noticed about the cap suit that I think could have made it better is unlike the practice with the batman cowl, they don't have make-up on his eyelids to emphasize the whites of his eyes. Also, the large eye holes don't help.

I think if they had added that detail it would have worked really well.

But, that would further stray from the aesthetic of the Cap mask.
It's always had the open eye area.
The make up on the eyelids is fine for the Batmask because it simulates what the comic version looks like.
If Wolverine were to wear a mask in film, then HIS eyelids would be acceptable to color in, as HIS mask has traditionally only left only enough space for the eyes to show.
I would've made some adjustments to the Cap mask, myself, but makeup on the eyelids is the LAST thing I'd ever do.
Besides, what's done is done, and I'll judge the suit and mask by what I see on film.
(judging by the SB spot, it's got a 'thumbs up' so far, by me)

Oh, well no offense but I'm glad you don't choose the costumes for the Avengers because Captain America is my favorite Marvel character and I HEAVILY prefer the newer costume. Not only is it more comic accurate but it's also sleeker, more colorful (which I see as a good thing) and more modern looking. The WW2 looks more appropriate for WW2 and that's where it should stay. I don't get where you're getting a cosplay vibe:

Never seen cosplay this intricate

...how is it more "comic accurate....?"

Neither Ultimate nor 616 Cap wears a helmet; he wears a cowl. Neither version covers up the ears. Both versions feature scalemail, while the movie does not. Neither comic version features zippers.

Yeah, the movie costume is more "comic accurate" in the sense that it's not comic accurate.

Are people really saying they would've preferred that he have no mask at all or that it would look less silly with protruding wings?

Here's how it would've happened. The director would've decided not to use the helmet because he doesn't need one, like Thor. The fans would have started riots and protests. Then the studio would've released pictures of this mask, which would've been a prototype. And everyone in this forum would say "That looks great and completely comic accurate!! Why didn't they go with that instead?"

The mask looks fine. I can't believe how sharp the reaction to it is here. So much so that people are actually suggesting it should be less comic-accurate.

Jesus.

The HELMET *doesn't* look "fine" to a large number of us, and it is nowhere close to being "comic accurate." If it was comic accurate, it would be a FABRIC COWL, not a hard plastic short-bus helmet.

I don't really have a problem with Thor not having a helmet since he's nigh-invulnerable, but Cap should definately have a helmet/cowl of some sorts.

The Helmet design is bad one but there are some more issues here, Cap has a suit that does not cover the neck portion very well, it just has a loose collar that is badly designed.

Then cap wears a sort of cowl-mask made of fabric which covers his head and neck (but not his ears.) then on top of all this He wears the helmet.

So, fully dressed up Captain has a helmet to cover and protect his head, a fabric that is part of cowl -mask that he wears under his helmet and his suit that partially covers his neck.

The suit at the neck does not seamlessly merge withe the helmet as at the neck there is a three piece combo.

This is a cooler suit than the Avengers one in my meager opinion. The new one is too nice and colorful. This is more "real" and gritty.

Uh oh, the word "gritty" rears it's ugly head once again.

Maybe this thread is more appropriate than the news thread to post this:

Real and gritty aren't really the same thing.

They're both real, since someone could wear both costumes it they wanted :cwink:

This one isn't meant to be gritty, he's a shiny superhero now. The old was meant to be gritty since he would be in the trenches

The ugly 3 piece suit design is visible in this pic, the helmet is looks clearly different than the mask made of fabric that is under the Helmet it is visible at the neck, then there is the suit collar, again looking different as it is made of different material.

The new suit is more comic acurate as in, it has the waist stripes and red gloves and boots. Jeez. Nothin but complaining here

You mean the waistband that should stretch *flat* across his stomach, instead of rising in the middle, like it does in the movie?

Or the star that should span his *entire* chest, instead of just being a dinky little Christmas star sitting right in the center? Or the white sleeves that should cover his *entire* forearms, instead of just tricep pads? And let's try not to mention the fact that Movie Cap's suit has a *featureless* back....

Look, I don't *hate* the costume, just the helmet. But don't pretend for an instant it looks any more "comic accurate" than CATFA's....at least CATFA's *did* authentically re-create Ultimate WWII, but this movie costume doesn't replicate either 616 *or* Ultimates. It's just a cosplay approximation.

Only if it look like this, we would all been really happy.

That small alteration helps alot in my book.

Just get rid of the zippers and add some padding around the arms and chest like in the 'after', and it'd be 10x better.

Man... well, I still disagree that the new suit looks cosplay-ish.

(Which I also remember being a substantial critique of the original TFA costume as well....)

The exposed chin is the best part of the new helmet. The chin is the part of Cap that makes him look manly, cover it up and he looks rather childish.
I mean when you compare, I don't see why people want a strap so bad:

This made me want a chinstrap much more lol

Why does the suit need to have such visible zippers? That just looks silly on a suit that is otherwise apparently supposed to be pretty high tech.

I think they were kinda going for a psuedo military look.
Kinda like my flight suit and its zippers and pouches.
(also NOT symetrical)
Not a deal breaker for me.

If Widow and Hawkeye don't need one down on the battlefield then that doesn't hold much water IMO.
