Casey Affleck and Allegations of Sexual Harrasment Surfaces

Always two sides to a story in these instances. As far as him being weird, if we judged actors on how weird or creepy they act in real life about 90% of our favorites would never have any work. :o

Of course there are 2 sides to a story. There was with Nate Parker too and he was still raked over the coals, no one could mention the movie without bringing up the controversy and he would be lucky to get a major role again.

Wtf is wrong with these fraggles? ****ing nonce cases all over Hollywood.

Are the two Afflecks close?

This isn't new information.

It seems like digging up past indiscretions against actors when they are on verge of some kind of success is a thing now.

From what I saw from a GBG interview, I would say no.

It was that same interview that made me think Casey was a little strange. If what he's being accused of is true, then just based on how he came off/behaved, I'm not really surprised.

It shouldn't be treated as "a thing now" though. Not like it's something as some oddity. It should be more and more common and it's starting to gain traction. It's done like this is because it's meant to stop these people from being continually rewarded and stop and make us look at who they are as people if we can bear that. But when we look at that as a negative, that's when we get set back. Of course people are going to release this when a major thing of theirs is out. Because it's one of the very few ways they can be the most heard like they weren't years ago when this came out and wasn't a bleep on anybody's radar. We live in a society where the perpetrator is given the benefit of the doubt over the victim. Look at our President-Elect. This society is ****ed up with our priorities.

Based on Casey's weird stoned out behavior on Colbert, I'm surprised but not surprised. When I say stoned out, not in the fun Shaggy way - more like a passive aggressive and defensive way.

Geez... that is an uncomfortable interview.

Yeah, and I can't believe Casey (reportedly) cheated on his wife (Joanquin's sister) during the shoot of hisstupid movie "I"m Still Here"..a mockumetray that could've worked but it's borderlining unwatchable.

It was a failure and Phoenix had to rebuild his career and credibility afterwards, had no hype when it was actually released, so it was all for naught.

I keep hearing that he's the frontrunner for best actor this year. It will say a lot about Hollywood if he gets nominated and sweeps the Globes and Oscars while it's a foregone conclusion that Nate Parker and his film won't make the cut at all.

And to be clear: I think Parker is a scumbag and I'm fine with him getting screwed over. But if you're going to apply that kind of scrutiny to one actor, particularly a person of color after you've nominated nothing but white actors for Academy Awards for two years straight, then you should apply it to a white actor as well. And while what Parker did was worse, it doesn't change the fact Affleck is a scumbag too and should be judged accordingly.

This 100%

That Affleck name carries weight, even if they aren't like all close.

I actually wanted Casey to be Hal Jordan when they reboot GL Corps, now it's all muddled.

If this is the year where Affleck wins best actor and we have that orange stain in the White House, what more proof do we need that this is a serious problem? It shows a terrible hypocrisy in oh so liberal Hollywood too.

Ot: really Casey Affleck? I like dude but he doesn't ooze charisma like Hal needs

He's more of a character actor from what I seen of him, and he looks a little more like the comic version than Reynolds did, that was my justification.

Character actor or not he's not really a charismatic leader type from what I've seen. He's a darker character kinda guy.

But that's another thread

I agree.

I suggested him as black mask. Casey has always had a 'off' vibe about him which lends better to villains or morally grey characters in my opinion.

Green Lantern: Emerald Predator

Hal Jordan: Casey Affleck
John Stewart: Nate Parker
Parallax Diarrhea Cloud: Donald Trump

This is the entire basis of the justice system, though, the accused is innocent until proven guilty. Sometimes it can protect people who really have done wrong things, but at the same time it protects people from being railroaded. A star shouldn't have any less rights than anybody else.

If I recall correctly, this is different from the Nate Parker situation, where I think he was acquitted because of the laws of the time, but had the same case been brought against him today, it would have had him guilty.

I get that, but if we keep saying innocent until proven guilty, you get to the point where you stand for nothing at all. That can be abused too. And it goes much deeper than that. America is a place with ideals that's discriminatory. We tend to take those ideals at face value. Plus in my view, we have no rights. Only temporary privileges. I have no problem believing female accusers because they're the ones who are always doubted first. We always find excuses and justifications for men first. Benefits of a patriarchal society.

But when has a white male celebrity ever screamed victim though or in a situation where he could be a victim? Celebrities in general are in totally different positions from everybody else on earth. They have certain privileges nobody else has. Which means they feel they can do whatever they want. A totally unique mindset develops for them only. And when you're a white male, where from pretty much when we're born, the world caters to us, that's compounded.

This comes to me as a great disappointment, guy is really talented and we find this out.

I wish people weren't the way that they are sometimes.
