What's the deal with casting such an old actor at the time for Lucius Fox. Had that change not happened in Batman Begins I seriously doubt people will even think of making him much older than Bruce Wayne.

Wouldn't WB've gone with your cast back in 1989 if it were truly better?

B89 was perfect for its time; leave it alone...

I'd keep the original cast, except I'd make one little change -

Michael Keaton...Batman/Bruce Wayne
Mark Hamill...Joker
Kim Basinger...Vicki Vale
Robert Wuhl...Alexander Knox
Pat Hingle...Commissioner James Gordon
Billy Dee Williams...Harvey Dent
Michael Gough...Alfred Pennyworth
Jack Palance...Carl Grissom

Patrick Swayze - Batman/Bruce Wayne
Jack Nicholson - The Joker
Michael Gough - Alfred Pennyworth (best cast by Burton)
Dennis Quaid - Harvey Dent
Kim Basinger - Vicki Vale

easy dude,I'm just havin fun here.Just a thought u know.Back then there were 3 candidates for director.Joe Dante from gremlins,Ivan reitman from ghost busters, and of course Tim burton from bettlejuice.(glad it's burton!)ivan reitman was aiming Bill Murray for batman.i choose that kinda cast because ridley scott's vision would probably be more serious, crime noirish, and grounded.Kinda like Blade runner, but sets in gotham.

o and did you know that nolan showed a screening of blade runner for the crew of batman begins. After the screening ends,he tells the crew that this is what he's trying to achive. There's a lot of blade runner influence like the tumbler was inspired from the future flying cars complete with exposed tires on it's front body. The narrows scene, looked a lot like the chinatown slump where Deckard eating his noodles and the casting of rutger houer,he's the main baddie in blade runner.

I would like to have seen Woody Harrelson as Joker . . . but around the time he did Natural Born Killers . . . and as long as he could shed that southern drawl . . .

i would like to see tom barenger as two face and wilem dafoe as joker.I saw platoon, and they were great together as sworn enemies slash competitor villains.Probably Johny depp as bruce wayne,if burton discovered him earlier before edward sciscorhand he would probably cast him in a heartbeat.Did anyone know why he(burton) dropp out doin batman films?

Totally missed that because in 19 years of reading Batman comics and having seen the animated series in it's entirety I don't ever recall him being portrayed as old enough to be Bruce's dad.

It wasn't Burton who decided to leave, it was WB because they felt Batman Returns was to dark for the kids.

I think the cast for Batman (89) is perfect, this who I'd get if I couldn't cast the original actors:

Bruce Wayne / Batman - RAY LIOTTA
The Joker - JOHN GLOVER
Vicky Vale - SEAN YOUNG
Harvey Dent - ROBERT DOWNEY JR.
Alfred Pennyworth - JOHN CLEESE
Comm. Jim Gordon - ROBERT REDFORD

If it were up to me:

Batman / Bruce Wayne - Alec Baldwin

The Joker - Jack Nicholson

Alfred Pennyworth - Christopher Lee

Commisioner James Gordon - Harrison Ford

Catwoman / Selina Kyle - Phobe Cates

Harvey Dent / Two-Face - Denzel Washington

Carmine Falcone - Frank Vincent

Lucius Fox - Sidney Poitier (this is a great choice)

The only other person who could have matched up to Nicholson's Joker back in '89, IMO, is Robin Williams. I'm sure he would have played the role quite similar to Nicholson's.

Michael Keaton...Batman/Bruce Wayne
Jack Nicholson...Joker
Kim Basinger...Vicki Vale
Robert Wuhl...Alexander Knox
Pat Hingle...Commissioner James Gordon
Billy Dee Williams...Harvey Dent
Michael Gough...Alfred Pennyworth
Jack Palance...Carl Grissom

Well, technically, what happened was, after BR, WB kept telling Burton the things he had to do for the third film to make it more assessable to children. And Burton - obviously - realized that this didn't mesh with his vision or direction at all, so they kinda both decided to part ways.

Sidney poitier reminds me a lot of morgan freeman. And i prefer him(lucious) to be older, coz that worked in begins. The fatherly figure chairman of the board type character that can guide Bruce to run Wayne Ent.I'm not a comic book purist when it comes to superhero movies,it's only a supporting character.Probably no longer than 4 minutes of screentime, and besides don't let the photo fooled you,Sidney Poitier look much younger 19 years ago.

I'm not one for changing '89 around, but this is a really good list!
