Casting for She-Hulk

The mo-cap route is the best way to do it, either via CG transformation or the way they did the hobbits in LOTR.

The way they did the hobbits in LOTR was forced perspective and body-doubles. Very little CGI at all for the size differences.

Yeah, I just re-watched The Two Towers, and Return of the King yesterday. Lots of forced perspective, and body doubles. The only CGI scene that stood out for the size difference was when all the Men bowed to the Hobbits at Minis Tirith.

Trisha Helfer.

I'd say that was green screen rather than CGI. CGI is ALL the characters running across the bridge of khazad-dum in FOTR. They're animated and not really there, though you could hardly tell unless the filmmakers told you(which they did on the DVD commentary). I guess it's a minor nitpick but green screen and CGI aren't the same thing.

With Hulk, it's easier to accept him as a totally CG character since he's supposed to be more of a monster, whereas with She-hulk she is just supposed to look like a tall, muscular woman with green skin. One route they could go is to have an actual actress's face on combined with a CG body, kind of like what they did for Green Lantern. There would be a very visible transformation, without running head first into uncanny valley. The CG would have to be really good but the odds of success would be much higher than if her face were CG as well.

Basically, they would have to digitally elevate her head by about 2-3 feet, and then transfer the motion capture data to a CG model with taller / more muscular structure, then superimose it back onto the actresses' body. They may bake this process easier by leaving her skin its natural color on set, and having a green screen behind her head whenever they film her so that it's easier to cut and move to sync up with the taller CG body. Then, they would re-color the actress's skin and make sure that everything lines up correctly and that the lighting / color matches between the real actress's head and the digital body.

That might work. I think a combination of different techniques is the best way to go though, IMO. Keep changing it up.

She could make a good She-Hulk(at least physically) but I have a hard time seeing her as Jennifer. Jen can be cute & mousy but she's not some hot babe.

That's a good point. This problem could be solved by having someone else play Jen, that has a similar facial structure to Helfer.

You are right. I guess I just got my terms mixed up.

Timstuff makes a good point, though. I've only seen 1 CGI movie where a face sort of fooled me, and that was Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. A few times I forgot Dr Cid was a computer generated character. Otherwise, they still have a long way to go to making human faces look realistic when they are CG.

The method he proposes would probably go a long way to making a 7'2, athletic green-skinned woman look more believable than simply painting her skin green.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't She-Hulk an expression of Jennifer's repressed side? Isn't that a big part of her character development? Shy, mousy Jennifer becomes a green-skinned, vivacious superhero who handles things in a far more direct manner than she can as a normal human self? I think that could be a compelling story.

Basically they would have to do a little Benjamin Buttoning like they did Chris Evans for Cap with this, only making her green and taller. If Avatar can handle having its main character onscreen for all that time, it shouldn't be an issue.

She's extremely pretty, but she transform into a geeky lawyer?

If you've ever seen the Battlestar Galactica movie "Razor", she briefly plays a somewhat nerdy crewmember aboard the Pegasus.

That said, I never really considered Jen very "geeky".

No, I haven't seen that movie. Now I have reason to check it out.

She looks the She-Hulk part as far as beauty and having sexual appeal.

Part of the idea of the Jennifer Walters character is that she's sexually insecure and somewhat frustrated...I'm not making this up...when she's She-Hulk, she no longer has those inhibitions, which is why she's flirtatious and why in her She-Hulk form she's a bombshell.

The "Benjamin Button" technique is pretty much what I am suggesting, because they did it in Captain America as well, as you mentioned. Evans was pretty much wearing a green body sock covered in trackers, and in post they moved his head downward a fair bit and replaced his the green sock with a CG-animated body. For She-hulk they would basically be doing the same thing, except instead of making the actress appear shorter they'd be making her taller and buffer, and making her green.

Don't forget the reason AVATAR could have it's main character on screen that much was because they spent $400 million bucks on that movie, a SHE HULK movie would have a much smaller budget which would equal much less screen time.

For My Money, It's Suzie Plaxton, Worf's mate

.

Already accustom to the Sy-Fi genre from her roles is different Star Trek episodes, she is 6'1" and charming

Not to mention that the Na'vi so not look quite like humans, and they have a lot of animalistic features that made it easier to step over uncanny valley. With She-hulk, she has to have a human looking face, and the only way I can really see them pulling that off (especially with a reasonable budget) is to actually use a human actress and composite footage of her face onto a CG body.

IMO, the person playing Jen & She-Hulk needs to be the same person. And getting an actress who has range and charisma is the most important thing. That's why I wanted Hathaway, because she can do that. The most interesting thing about She-Hulk is her personality and how she reacts to how it changes between forms.

Couldn't agree more. So many of the women posted here don't even look like Jen and have no acting experience. They're just supermodels, worthy of a photo not a movie or telly show.

Jen needs to have personality and pathos

These are great Shulk illustrations though I'd probably use more muscular models based on the depictions of her physique in the comics than in some of these.

You hit the nail on the head with getting an actress that has range. I'll go even further by saying that all comic book characters translated to the big screen should have only use trained thespian actors/actresses.

I Agree.

..she has to be hot, in human form, and her hulk form has to be hot but realistic, and look great in a bikini outfit..
